GOLDEN DAY FOR BURY’S YOUNG ATHLETES
Gold was the colour for Bury’s young sporting stars when they
triumphed in the Greater Manchester Champions Challenge.
Team Bury won seven events (seven gold medals) in badminton,
rowing and girls’ football, plus three bronze medals.
The Champions Challenge, in partnership with the Manchester
United Foundation, is a competition involving the ten boroughs
in Greater Manchester.
One of its aims is to work with national sports governing bodies
and unearth the sporting champs of the future.
The event took place in March at the Wright Robinson Sports
College and at Trafford Metrovicks.
Bury’s winners were helped on their way to success by Bury
Council’s sports development team and local volunteer team
managers.
Pritesh Patel, borough team director with Bury Sport
Development, said: “Team Bury did the borough proud again this
year, winning more events and more medals than ever before.
Seven gold medals, and seven Greater Manchester champions,
should certainly be celebrated.”
