Blackburn Indoor 5-a-side Tournament

BACK

Monday 16th & Tuesday 17th February 2009 at St Wilfrid's Leisure Centre, Blackburn

Monday 16th February saw the Under 10s team compete in the morning tournament and the Under 13s put two teams out in the Under 14s tournament in the afternoon.

Tuesday 17th February was the Under 12s day, with two Under 12s and the Under 11s taking part on this day.

This was a great representation by Bury Girls & Ladies FC and we thank everyone involved from the players, parents and managers/coaches for giving up their time during the half term school break.

So how did we get on .............................

The Under 10s managed to complete their group and get through to the final against Mill Hill Girls FC.  This finished on a stale mate and had to be decided with penalties.  Unfortunately Bury were just beaten.
The Under 13s put two teams in the Under 14s group (Blue and White).  They were up against two teams from Academy Juniors, Mill Hill Girls FC and Darwen Rangers FC.  They played all games to the best of their ability but unfortunately with on the last match against Mill Hill they lost 2-1 which meant they missed out on the final as they needed a draw or a win to go through.  On the day the teams finished in a respectable 3rd and 4th.
Under 10s with manager Neil - finalists
Under 13s
The Under 12s had 3 teams A and C represented by Graham's Under 12s and B represented by Rick's Under 11s.

Game 1 vs Bury A     Result: 0-0

Bury went head to head in the opening group game.  'A' seemed shocked at how good we were and failed to get into the game.  'B' created chances but failed to find a way past future England Star Kath Summerville.  A strong defensive display from Nyhem and Tessa prevented the 'A' team from creating any meaningful chances as the game played out to a 0-0 draw.

Game 2 vs Bury C     Result: 0-1

In the 2nd group game another tight affair as again Bury 'B' refused to back down to the older opponents.  9 minutes of even play ruined by a dodgy call from the referee A sliding Tessa deemed to have blocked a shot by entering the area.  As all the players and spectators looked confused even Graham was questioning the decision.  A cooly taken penalty and the 'B' team suffered their 1st defeat.

Game 3 vs Academy Jnrs A     Result: 2-0

A stong performance was needed from the 'B' team to get back into this tournament and a pure moment of magic from Ellie McDermott to take the ball past two Academy players before playing in Emma to fire the 'B' team into the lead and give us our 1st goal.  Then a strong tackle from Nyhem allowed Emma to break again and cooly finish off the game.

Game 4 vs Academy Jnrs B     Result: 1-0

A win was needed here to lift us up the table and keep alive dreams of making the final.  Super sub Simone provided the extra push needed to create the match winning goal again scored by Emma.  The striker was on fire as the minutes counted down the girls grew in confidence but a 2nd goal wasn't needed as we comfortably strolled to a 1-0 victory.

Game 5 vs Darwen 3-0

The Bury players went out knowing a win would take them into the final and they duly delivered.  A early goal from Emma settled any nerves more brave defending from the side prevented any chance of an upset and further goals from Ellie and Simone fired Bury 'B' team into there first final.

The Final

Vs Bury C

The only side to beat us in the group stage came into the final.  Bury 'B' had a taste for revenge and set out to right the wrong of the previous meeting.  A tense affair was intensified when Emma fired Bury 'B' into an early lead and a shock was on the cards as we entered half time 1-0 to the good.  The 2nd half and the 'B' team had the 'C' team on the ropes and looking out of it as we extended our lead to 2-0.  The 2nd goal served only to kick start the game and the 'C' team came back.  Pulling one back and then grabbing a late equaliser to send the game to extra time.  'B's set out to find a winner and Emma sent a scorching effort that hit the bar and inside of the post only to bounce out into a grateful goalkeepers arms.  The game went to the lottery of penalties and today was not to be our day Bury 'B' (Under 11s) 2- 2 Bury 'C' (Under 12s)
(Under 12 win 3-2 on penalties)
