Forbes Solicitors Pre-Season Tournament

BACK

Sunday 24th August 2008 at Pleasington Playing Fields, Blackburn

Yet again you did us proud and against in most cases a year older girls but in the Fleetwood managers own words, half is team will be playing at under 15 next year so who are the victors, yes his team are but so are we with our girls of who three of our team played illegally at this tournament and were actually to young due to the 2 year age rule the FA advise.   Both opposition managers commented on how good Bury Girls were to be able to hold their own in this age category.  And if you are a regular visitor to this website you will know this isn't the first time we have beaten teams older than ourselves.

Bury Girls will always continue to set the bar high I am pretty sure of that.  We are not a club that pick easy games so we can tell everyone how we won everything.

Well done girls, time for the adults to chill with wine now, they have had an exhausting day.

Bury came to this tournament knowing it was going to be very tough as we played in the higher Under 14's age group simply because there wasn't an Under 13's group.  Bury's first game against Inter Mill Hill was a very close and even affair and when you have only have ten minutes each way, its really difficult to convincingly win a game and for a few minutes we seemed to panic pass and needed to settle down and play how we know how to.  We finally started to put a few good passes together and after what seemed like a eternity found the back of the net. Sometimes you grind wins out and this was one of them games where we weren't at our best and it showed as Inter Mill Hill equalised and we had to fight tooth and nail to get anything out of this game.  Bury finally started to play and from a great cross from the wings Inter Mill Hill did our work for us and headed into their own net to give Bury the deserved victory but a victory that we made hard work of.

Bury   2    Inter Mill Hill   1

Bury's second game was against the runners up in the North Valley Under 13's league of last year Fleetwood Town and yet again Bury where in for a roll your sleeves up game.  Bury wouldn't be denied and fought like trojans and showed how sometimes not all football is pretty.  But team spirit and a will to win pulls you through and I think this did happen in this game and we finally scored and took victory in a game that could of gone either way.

Spot the ball ?
Dancing contest ?

Bury's third game against Inter Mill Hill was another tough job but they seemed to offer less resistance this time around and Bury finally had a bit of a easier game and dominated from the off and finally had time and space to play some great footy.  Even though we only scored one in this game we dominated everything and showed our class yet again.

Bury   1     Inter Mill Hill     0

Bury's fourth game was against the impressive Fleetwood Town girls who must of thought we where the spanner in the works as we had previously beaten them and how they wanted revenge and only one thing was certain in this match and that was Bury were definitely in the final win or lose and Fleetwood needed a draw to also reach the final.  The tempo of this match was in the red zone as both teams matched each other tackle for tackle and I have even got sore shins and I didn't even play.   There could only be one fair outcome of this game and that's a nil niller and that's exactly how it finished.

Bury    0     Fleetwood Town      0

The final was played against Fleetwood and yet in another even game that could of gone either way and both teams grafting for the win in a truly heart wrenching game which can only be described as quality.   Fleetwood Town finally banged a cross over and after a goal mouth scramble and a couple of rick o'shays Fleetwood found the back of the net to take a one nil lead.  Bury upped the anty and Fleetwood defended like their lives depended on it and Bury through everything but the kitchen sink at goal and finally the ref blew up and sods law had struck us and we had been beaten for the first time all day against a side that couldn't beat us in the group stages.

Bury      0     Fleetwood Town 1.
