'Round Robin' Tournament
Just ahead of our new league season, we were invited once again to join Heyside Angels and Denton Town in a series of ‘round-robin’ 7/6-a-side matches on 3G Astroturf grass pitches used by Heyside in Royton, near Oldham.
We had an excellent turnout, with 12 girls attending the match on behalf of Bury Girls & Ladies FC as follows: -
We switched our teams around between each match and did some ‘roll on-roll off’ substitutions to ensure that all the girls kept involved as much as possible.
It was great to see cheering for team mates ‘on the field’ from those girls that were awaiting their next turn ‘in the action’. Kayleigh and Molly shared the goalkeeping duties and each of them performed some splendid saves in the face of some strong attacking play from the opposition teams.
Results of the four short games played on the afternoon by our squad (only a short time was available overall, as the pitches were in great demand) were as follows: -
Once again, all were closely fought games and enjoyed by all. We were pleased with our results against these more experienced teams and the matches were played in a very sporting manner.
Our two goals were scored by Kristeen, the second of which was created by an excellent run down the left wing by Jodie, who then cut the ball back inside for Kristeen to launch a powerful drive into the back of the net!
Also of particular note was our creation of many scoring opportunities in the first match, where we were only thwarted by some excellent saves by the Denton goalkeeper.
Our player of the match award was not presented on this occasion, given it was still feeling too comfortable in Kayleigh’s trophy cabinet from our last match!!
Thanks to all the Bury parents for bringing the girls along and thanks once again to the organisers at Heyside and to the Denton team for taking part in the competition. League fixtures permitting, we will look to arrange a return friendly with these two clubs over the next couple of months.
