Euxton Tournament

UNDER ‘9s’-EUXTON TOURNAMENT REPORT-27^th June 2009

The next challenge for our recently-formed Under 9s squad was to take part in a second tournament on grass pitches used by Euxton Girls FC.

We were once again playing teams that are actually this season’s Under 9s, rather than next season’s (as we will be), so most of the girls taking part for other teams were actually in the next school year above our girls.

In addition, most of the teams taking part have been playing in a local Wigan ‘development’ league this season and have all enjoyed some success in the matches they have played against each other. Once again, this was excellent match experience for all the enthusiastic girls from Bury Girls & Ladies FC, albeit the timing of the tournament was not ideal as it was on the morning after our annual presentation evening and the girls had had a late night!!!

The 9 girls attending the tournament on this occasion were as follows: -

We did some ‘roll on-roll off’ substitutions to ensure that all the girls kept involved and to give everyone an equal amount of ‘pitch time’.  A number of the girls took turns to be goalkeeper and this was great to see.

Results of the group stage games were as follows: -

• Euxton Girls North        3-0       Bury Girls FC
• Bury Girls FC              0-0       Aspull Belles FC

 

Unfortunately, we did not qualify for the final stages of the competition on this occasion, but we had some good close games and we finished with a ‘flourish’ by drawing with our good friends from Aspull Belles FC!

All had a great time and once again appeared to enjoy the experience of playing in a tournament—whilst still managing to eat an ice cream along the way!!! The girls did really well, considering the age difference compared to most of their opponents and the fact that we are only just beginning to learn how to play within a team.

Thanks to all the parents for bringing the girls along and for being patient as the various stages of the competition took place!

Thanks also of course to all the organisers at Euxton Girls FC for a thoroughly enjoyable day and to all the other teams and managers for playing the games in a very sporting and friendly fashion. We look forward to getting the chance to play in the tournament once again next year.
