19/05/10        Manchester City Ladies FC    V        Bury Girls & Ladies FC    (friendly)

Bury travelled down to South Manchester and played Manchester City, the South Manchester League Champions in their own back yard in deepest Wythenshawe.  Both teams had expected a very hard game as both teams had been following the others league positions and them league positions for both teams were that they were being propped up by the other teams. In other words both were top of their respective leagues.  The game had quality written all over it and that was before a ball had even been kicked.  We were expecting Noel Gallagher to watch and we looked for him but he wasn't on the sidelines but we think the rest of Manchester was.  They must of heard Bury was in town and so they turned out in hundreds to come and watch probably two of the best teams in the country.  Form is temporary but class is permanent and class it was, a case of who blinks first would be put to the sword.  Well it was Bury who blinked and City put us to that sword and in probably the closest ever game in the history of football that as ever been played ended up as a one niller in City's favour.

22/04/10    Bury Girls & Ladies FC U14s    v        Lammack Juniors FC U15s

                    Pre-Cup Final friendly.

Bury's barmy army travelled up to Blackburn for a pre-cup final friendly against the Under 15s, year older girls of Lammack, who are also in their own Cup Final at the same venue this coming Sunday.  Bury knew this would be a tough game as Lammack had finished second in their Under 15s League and had only lost one game all season so this game would be the perfect warm up for each team before we both enter the finals.  On a lovely night both teams commenced battle with no one giving an inch and both sets of players battling it out all over the pitch. This is just what both teams needed for the Sunday ahead and not some game you simply turn the opposition over.  After this game surely both teams must be stronger outfits.  As things ebbed and flowed and all players cancelling the other players out and some stalwart tackling going in, you would never of thought this game was a friendly.  Good stuff from both teams but something had to give but no one wanted to give was the simple problem.  The problem of how to defend against the worlds top scorer suddenly popped up and bang, Courtney chipped the keeper and put the shakers in a just shading it lead.   The shakers lead didn't last ten minutes as a bit of ball watching lead to Lammack splitting the defence were the very fast front line finished off superbly to make it legs eleven, 1-1.  Bury now knew Lammack didn't just have one fast player up front but three and the thing was they were now being completely shut out and held at bay.  Ten minutes in the second period Hannah W skins a couple of players and hits the ball superbly making the keeper stretch full length but to no avail as it goes into goal, yet again to the raptures of the travelling season ticket holders of Bury.  Bury were now on top of things but obviously had to keep their wits about them and then with nine minutes left on the clock Lammack went at goal and Charlotte quite simply put the ball out for a corner, but the ref blows up and shouts penalty, even the Lammack parents said 'nevva'.  Anyhow after the ref had drank his Horlicks the Lammack player coolly converted and Bury simply then piled it on for the remaining few minutes and  we huffed and puffed but couldn't score another and in what can only be described as a quality game from both teams ended as probably a fair 2-2 result.  Another game were every player gave their all and stood up to be counted.  This is how football should be played.  Thanks to Ian and all at Lammack for inviting us to their ground.  Good luck to all the players on both sides for this Sunday's Finals.

18/04/10        Bury Girls & Ladies FC    v        Cadley Girls FC

Bury today were playing their final game of the season in the league unti the play off because this league doesn't count goal difference.  Bury having two games taken off them as Myerscough point blank refuse to play us could have been very rusty for this game against Cadley, but we wasn't, after playing Scotland's top teams two weeks running we were hitting top form and when you beat a team from Scotland whose top goal scorer has 97 league goals this season alone and we reduced this to a zero against us you know you are a pretty descent team. At least Cadley turn up for their matches and even though I think we all knew we was going to beat them today we had to be on song before the Cup Final in a weeks time.  We hope to win yet again.  We had to change pitches for this match as our normal fantastic pitch had been marked out for school sports and so we went to the roadside pitch and with the weather being sunny for the last couple of weeks this pitch was bone dry and quite rutty in places.  Bury having beaten Cadley at their home ground by the score of Arch Bishop Desmond 22 probably thought we could do it again but it wasn't to be.  With ten minutes on the clock we bag the first with a trademark Courtney goal.  With twelve on the clock Courtney gets her second, then Lizzie not to be out gunned gets the third and fourth.  Then Jenna who is now hitting form gets Bury's fifth and then on 32 minutes hits the sweetest of volleys straight from the corner to make it 6-0 before the interval.  For the second half Bury changed things around as they do when the games won and we were trying different things out and putting people in different roles.  Second half starts and Lois gets Bury's 8th then Center Half Lauren nicks one off Holly and scores.  Lois,  Jenna,  Lizzie and Courtney round things off for a 13 niller.  All in all a good game and a good warm up for next weekends cup final.

07/04/10    Bury Girls & Ladies FC    v        Buchan Girls FC (Aberdeenshire)

Having played Buchan Girls' second team last week we were set the challenge of playing their first team this week.  They are the Aberdeenshire Girls League Champions 2009 & 2008 with an outstanding record.  A team that also made it to the Scottish Cup Semi Finals.

It was a great game with lots of action.  It was good for the Bury girls to have a good run out against a quality side.  Shortly into the second half Bury took the lead with a tap in  from Keely following a great ball in from Courtney.

Thanks to Buchan Girls for including us in their tour.  We wish both teams luck in the Under 15s league, which has just started in March.

27/03/10    Bury Girls & Ladies FC    v        Mill Hill Girls FC

After a month of no league games due to a team withdrawing from the league and another not wanting to face us we finally got back to our winning ways after our only loss in nearly two years in the league.  Bury today were probably fielding their strongest ever squad and they were biting at the bit to get going.  In the two previous meetings we had had with Mill Hill this year they had given us two very good games even though we had won both games with comfy scores.  Game on and within one minute Bury had split Mill Hill and with a pinpoint cross to the right wing and a ball then lumped in to the area to which Hannah W got on the end of and the mighty shakers take the lead.  With three minutes now on the clock Mill Hill come at Bury with their own attack only for the ball to land directly at the feet of the Bury captain Holly who bangs the ball route one and up and over it goes and lands directly in the running path of the worlds top scorer who duly fires home to hand the shakers a 2-0 lead within 3 minutes.  It was looking like a cricket score could be on the cards but to Mill Hill's credit they now themselves started to play and give us a game and had their own very capable players.  We were definitely edging things in all areas but Mill Hill were now defending superbly and so it was hard to break them down.  Then on twenty six minutes Courtney yet again gets on the end of a Lizzie left foot cross and its 3-0.  We weren't counting any chickens but I think it was now sort of safe to say we was going to win this game.  Then on the stroke of 34 minutes Lois gets the shakers another to go in at the interval 4 nil up.  Mill Hill's half time team talk must of had the desired effect because they came out and once again matched us and gave it a good go and credit to them for this.  Then on 55 minutes Hannah A gets Bury's fifth and the team are now changed to a 3-5-2 formation and Ellie is put into a pushing midfield role and within seconds it was like the parting of the waves as she simply went through everybody and tucked the ball away to make it 6-0.  Bury hadn't quite finished and to end a good days footy Emily scores from an acute angle to make it 7-0 final score.  We were back to our best today and looked awesome with the work rate that was put in.

28/02/10        Academy Juniors FC    v        Bury Girls & Ladies FC

Today's match was truly the clash of the big guns in the North West.  Bury having already played AJ's and coming away with a 5-3 thriller knew we couldn't take them for granted and knew they had improved having watched them against Preston North End and should have been worthy winners but had to come away with a loss.  Game on and both teams went into battle and matched each other with sheer guts and determination.  Something had to give and the mighty shakers on eight minutes split the AJ's defence well and truly wide open to which the worlds top scorer Courtney goes one on one with the keeper and fires the ball home to the raptures of the travelling away fans.  AJ's had to come back but Bury wanted more and for the next twenty minutes we looked good and other teams would have folded but AJ's soaked it all up and defended like true warriors.  Then their captain came straight through the middle of us and left, right, left, right, bang, goal.   This immediately lifted Aj's and now it was well and truly game on.  We were probably edging things by half time but the score was saying 1-1.   It was now a case of which team wants it more now but yet again both teams were matching each other in all departments.  Bury were piling it on and after a corner which was bullet headed and some how the keeper puts it over the bar for another corner.  In it comes and lands at near post and over the line it goes and the place erupts with a 9.4 on the Richter scale and the shakers are 2-1 in front.   The thing is AJ's just wouldn't lie down and within minutes had chipped the complete back four to gift them a goal to bring them back into it once again. Then disaster strikes and AJ's are gifted a goal and we are now 3-2 down with ten minutes to go.  AJ's now shut up shop and put two players on each of our strikers but we were still pulling the trigger and missing by the odd millimetre.  Things were getting desperate now and with five minutes to go we had to gamble and played three at the back and three up front and surely Bury would get the equaliser.  Not quite that simple seeing as we were pressing them so deep they hit us with a classic and hit us on the break to score with only a minute or two left on the clock.  Final whistle blows and Academy Juniors had beaten us fair and square in an absolute classic match which we knew before the game started that things could go pear shaped.  Bury's undefeated league run of 23 months or our last league defeat was 29th march 2008.  We knew it had to happen one day and well done to AJ's for lifting themselves to our standards as we will now go away and become stronger.

07/02/10    Penwortham Girls FC        V            Bury Girls & Ladies FC

Today we travelled up to Preston to play a league game against Penwortham. The game starts and full credit goes to Penwortham as they matched us and came at us with the obvious intention of winning this game.  Both teams were playing good stuff and an early goal was definitely on the cards.  After five minutes that goal came as a Penwortham girl broke free and runs at our keeper who then upended the Penwortham player inside the box and with only one outcome of penalty.  Up steps a Penwortham player who fires the ball hard and low to the left post and to which our keeper couldn't get her hands to it.  One nil to Penwortham.  Bury had to up the pace now and up the pace they did but even after playing some mouth watering football across the park and getting within range and pulling the trigger, we were going over the bar, wide or the very capable defence were dealing with us with some great tackling.  Charlotte finally put Bury on level terms only for the ref to blow and disallow the goal as he had seen a foul on the keeper.  It took Bury nearly twenty minutes to level and it was Charlotte who once again fires home and this time it was ruled a good goal.  Next up it was Courtney's turn to score in what was a goal mouth scramble to which she poked it home. 2-1 the Shakers and we are playing music.  The subs are brought on and within three or four minutes Hannah J chips the keeper from 20 yards out.   Before the ref blows for half time we score two more to go in with a 5-1 lead but make no mistake we weren't having it all our own way and Penwortham were playing some good football and were worthy opponents.  The second half basically went the same way as the first half and as a parent commented, its not bad when you look at the bench and you've got the best centre mid in the country and probably Europe's most prolific goal scorers sat on it and we wasn't even full strength.  We eventually run out as 10-1 winners in this game but that score doesn't really reflect how good the Penwortham team were.

31/01/10    Bury Girls & Ladies FC    V    Myerscough JFC         League Cup Semi-Final

Bury's match today was the League Cup Semi Final being played on the neutral ground of Lytham YMCA against Myerscough who we had soundly beat 7-1 in last years final.  It was noted that two of our players were not eligible to play in this game as they hadn't played the three league games you have to play to be in the semis so they had to be left at home.  On inspection of cards it was discovered a Myerscough player was infringing this rule but she was allowed to play.  Anyway game on and seeing Bury hadn't played a single fixture since 29th November we were expecting severe rust and seeing that Myerscough had no rust problems with them playing last week and half of them having played for Preston North End we knew we had to be ready from the off. Well if you believed we were rusty at the start of this game, by the end of it we were like polished chrome. Within five minutes of the start a Bury player is brought down inside the box, ref blows but gives direct free kick outside.  The leagues second top scorer steps up to unleash and thank you its one nil to the league champs.  Bury were now good with the midfield of Jenna, Charlotte, Emily, Lois and Hannah working hard to close down the ball early.  Bury didn't look bothered about anything Myerscough could do as we just snuffed out all their attacks with Ellie, Holly, Lauren and Kim standing firm in defence and made sure all the shots were from distance to which our keeper dealt with easily. Bury were trying their hardest for the second goal but seeing as the pitch was covered in snow and the sun was directly over the bar, we just couldn't see the ball but we knew this would change in the second half.  We looked good as the half ended but we looked awesome as the second half got under way.  With the sun behind us and the snow melting Bury were off the leash and fired some heavy duty shots at goal.  Now the leagues top goal scorer before the game had pulled a back muscle so she was struggling to pull the pin and was being marked out the game.  She turned a player and lays Lizzie on who duly fires home. 2-0 the Shakers and its in the bag.  Myerscough on a rare attack come down the left wing and cut in to which their own player clearly fell over her own lime green boots and gets a penalty. Our keeper who had stopped anything stands on her line waiting for a Preston North End player to fire it home.  Well she certainly hit a ferocious low shot with goal written all over it but our keeper dived full length to her left and miraculously turned the ball round the post to the delighted applause from the Bury fans.  It was a save that will never be forgotten by all on that pitch.  Myerscough probably couldn't believe it didn't end up in goal and after which the resulting corner was cleared we hit them on the break and let Lizzie bag her hattrick.  The game was over but we could have gone on forever. A lass of the grass wasn't called today but just as Bradders said, Mel deserved it with that top drawer penalty save.

29/11/09    Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V        Barnoldswick Barons FC

Barnoldswick Barons were our visitors today and this match was only declared fit to play at 8am after a pitch inspection due to the weather but as everybody knows this superb pitch was in fine shape with only the odd squelchy bits.  As the referee blows to start the game the heavens opened and it rained for the entire first half.  It was a case of stand up and be counted.  The girls did just that and they needed to be as we were playing last years 9 a-side runners up so we knew they were no mugs.  Barnoldswick wanted to upset the apple cart and for the first twenty minutes they were also there to be counted and upset proceedings with the first shot at goal only to sky it high up into the stands, it was clearly ten yards off but the ref says play on as the linesman didn't flag.  Bury gritted their teeth and decided that was it and they wouldn't come through us again and that is exactly what happened and it was only a matter of time before we would get our own chances and put this one to bed.  We as a unit battled for everything and were singing all the right notes and halfway through the first half we net the first with a classic, a shot by Lizzie with merciless intentions from 30 yards that rip the net out and to the raptures of the Bury die hards.  Barnoldswick must of been stunned to the core.  Well they were when the second one went in with only another two minutes on the clock as Courtney hits a carbon copy goal and sorry keeper but 'pick that one out'.  Bury had now adapted to the conditions and now looked awesome and were running the show in all departments.  Us parents may have been froze to the spot but the girls were now on fire and on 28 minutes Courtney gets Bury's third and before the first half ends Lizzie grabs Bury's fourth.  With subs being made for the second half .  Bury were now in cruise control and Courtney goes and fires home Bury's fifth and then Emily after some dazzling football from left wing to right wing and looking like Pele grabs a well deserved sixth. I think Barnoldswick were finally surrendering and so we decided we would camp in their half.  Anyhow Courtney grabs the seventh , and with only 14 minutes on the clock in the second half Lois the eight after a brilliant display in midfield with Hannah.  What a combination they have become, brill.  At this point both centre halfs came off and we had to re-jiggle again, but credit to the Bury girls as most of them are able to play in two or three different positions.  Liz then gets Bury's ninth, then Jenna scores to the delights of the parents as that one cost her dad sixty dabs. To round things off Courtney hits the last of the day. Another brilliant performance by every girl on the pitch and a display of football that could not be matched for effort and togetherness.

15/11/09        Mill Hill Girls FC        V        Bury Girls & Ladies FC

Bury having played Mill Hill only last week in the League Cup were back up at Blackburn to face them in the league on the same pitch and in the same conditions as last week. We also knew Mill Hill were back to full strength as last week they were three players missing. Was last weeks 6-1 win going to be turned on its head as Bury's captain marvel had to sit this entire match out with a flu bug. The captaincy was handed to Courtney  who went on to do a sterling job.  Last week we were rusty and looked like we were second to every ball. This week we played good stuff with Kim covering left back and Charlotte at right back and Lois and Hannah running the centre midfield. Bury looked awesome. We were immediately running the show and peppered the Mill Hill goal with some fantastic shots to which the keeper pulled off some great saves but as everybody knows you cant keep us out for long and on 3 minutes Lizzie hits the first of the day after some fantastic play from mid up to wing for the ball to land sweetly for Liz to net. Then on 11 minutes Liz hits her second and yet again Liz nets it.  It was good to watch and Bury were grafting for this as Mill Hill kept our defenders busy but Kim, Ellie, Lauren and Charlotte were putting in some brave tackles to deny anything coming our way. Then on 26 minutes Bury get the third after the sweetest of balls landed at the sweet left foot of Emily and back of the net it was. Half time comes and Bury were applauded off the pitch as we were so good. It may of only been three nil but if it weren't for the muddy goal mouths were the ball was landing 'dead' we would of been in a much bigger lead we believe.  Second half starts and Bury went straight at goal and after only two minutes Keely unleashes what was the goal of the day as it half ripped the back of the net out. The game was now basically won and we could swap the team around a little and bring players on and off. We again had shot after shot after shot but this keeper was earning her spurs keeping us out.  The thing is our strikers are greedy and when you have two super strikers on the team who are relentless and the leagues two top scorers something as to give and on 29 minutes of the second period the sea parted and Courtney bags her first of the day. The game now ran its course and ended as us victors in a 5-0 game of class. We were good today, very good. It was like a cloud had been lifted and the sun shined on us.

18/10/09        Bury Girls & Ladies FC    V        Preston North End Girls FC

Tesco County Cup - Semi Final

Bury today entertained the mighty Preston North End and lets be honest this was the biggest game in the country on this weekend.  Both teams went head to head and the underdogs Bury shook Preston to the core and wouldn't let Preston play.  Bury battled for everything and won everything and were outclassing our visitors and we just thought it was a matter of time before our first goal would come.  How wrong we were.  Preston soaked it up, won their first corner of the game and scored direct from the corner from a out-swinger that bounced once and ended up in the net, now work that one out.  Bury had to regroup and as we were about to, Preston bag their second and now was it time for our heads to drop or stand up and be counted.  Well we waited till the third goal went in before we surrendered.  Bury were playing all the right notes but they just weren't in the right order .  If you give Preston an inch they will take the mile and this they did and before the first half slaughter had ended we were hit for five.  We had to desperately get our game going for the second half and we knew we had a great chance, but then the game started. No honestly we came out in the second half with the belief that we could at least draw a couple of goals back .  Well we didn't and they scored again but at least it was only one goal in the second half.  We wanted to have a debate but was talked out of it. This was a big loss for us today and by a big score but its lessons learnt and it will make us better as defeat doesn't taste nice and I am sure our battered and weary players will pick themselves up dust themselves down and battle on.  Just as one of 'em said I think i've got a metatarsal to which the manager said them Korean cars are crap. We still could joke after defeat but a defeat that is rarer than hens teeth.

11/10/09        Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V        Penwortham Girls FC

Today's opponents won the toss and kicked off, and immediately Bury won the ball and split the defence, to get Lois in to bag Bury's first of the day within a minute of the start. Bury for the next fifteen minutes looked jaded and not up to the task ahead. It was time for change and the super subs were brought on and this changed the game instantly from waiting for the ball to land at your feet to going winning the ball. Lizzie goes at goal and gets Bury's second and this seems to settle us and gives us a bit of breathing space. We are now starting to get into our stride but there is still a bit of ironing out to be done. Bury go at goal again and Courtney gets her first of the day to give Bury a nice three nil lead even though we are not our usual perfectly organised unit.  We try never to leave any stones unturned and we do our homework and our players are told who the danger players are on the opponents teams and we knew they have a very fast centre forward and so our simple plan was to not let anything through the back four. This backfired and the defence was split and a good goal it was. Bury had kept clean sheets since 13th September so this was a rare event and finally this probably was exactly what was needed to spark us into life.  We will have the debate at training but Bury had now come through the clouds and started looking good again and before the whistle goes for half time Lizzie gets another to take us into the interval with a 4-1 lead but not before Bury put a thirty ball passing spree together finally going at goal only to put the ball into the side netting. Bury start the second half and within four minutes of the start Lizzie gets her hatrick and Bury are now very comfy. Next up left pegger Emily gets in on the act and gets Bury's sixth after some fine footwork. Obviously not to be outdone two minutes later Hannah wants a taste and scores a beauty.  Bury are now back to the high standards we like and four minutes exactly to the second, Lois gets Bury's eigth.  With time now running out Bury go at goal again and foul committed. Its a thirty yarder and the captain wants this one and unleashes to which the keeper got her hands on it but it crept over the line to give Bury a final result of 9-1.

04/10/09        Bury Girls & Ladies FC    V        Rossendale Utd FC

Today's match was against the girls of Rossendale United who we had never played before and maybe they could of been the first team in the last year and a half to beat us.  Bury had a big squad today with 16 players all wanting a bit of the action.  Game on.  Straight from kick off Bury go at goal and with only 20 seconds gone Courtney bags her 1st of the day and what will eventually become her 8th of the match and that's with a third of it being sat on the bench.  Bury were on song and looked like poetry of how we were switching play from one side to another. It was the classic game of keep ball. With five subs to choose from, the special one decides to sub five at once and took the complete best defence in the country off the pitch and the best centre mid in Europe so as to try out new players.  By now it was obvious Bury were going to win this game and so instead of just going for goal after goal after goal, we wanted to and did do our passing game and although at half time we were in a convincing 9-0 lead we had come off the throttle,  we've got some massive games coming up and so the girls were sent out in the second half with strict instructions of not to go drifting and to have cover when they do, in other words talk to each other, and this they did.  Basically the second half went the way of the first half with Bury rounding the game off at 16-0. We were awesome yet again and for the fifth time in six games we keep yet another clean sheet to go with our 83rd goal of the season in cup and league. On an even better note, the Rossendale manager rang us after the game to congratulate us on our fantastic passing and switching and that we had also rather pass the ball around than keep scoring.

27/09/09        Bury Girls & Ladies FC    V        Bridge Colts FC (1st round League Cup)

Today's match was against Bridge Colts who we had met already this season in the league and make no mistake, Bridge Colts improve every time we play them. The first few minutes of this match was very equal and Bury were doing their best Elvis impressions because ''they were all shook up'' and Bridge took the game to Bury and caused us a few scary moments until we settled. Once we had settled slightly we bagged the first of the day on eight minutes. Usually once this as happened the flood gates open but we were still a bit flat footed and not running on all cylinders. The thumb screws came out and solved this problem and by half time we were back on the track and being the pigeon and not the statue. Second half starts and as yet again our fitness and stamina take us to the heights no one can reach and Bury now were running the show and with some fantastic balls laid down the flanks and some fine balls to Jenna our man of match who was so fast she was passing her own shadow, and that is fact because we don't tell tall stories. We went on to win this game 12-0 but Bridge Colts gave us a good run for our money today and one things for sure they will be climbing up the league table without a shadow of a doubt.

Bury today travelled up to Cadley to their excellent ground and were expecting a match like last years which was tough from the off and a match were Cadley made us fight for every single ball.  We noticed Cadley couldn't field a full team and so Bury were immediately at an advantage but the obvious question was, could we break down their ten, seeing as Bury were at nearly full strength.  Straight from the off Bury looked good and within a couple of minutes took the lead and basically never looked back. I ain't going to bleat on here but this game ended up as a 22-0 win and may be the scoreline doesn't really reflect the game and we do actually try and keep scores down but it just wasn't to be Cadley's game or day. Both teams played some excellent stuff and I think Bury just wanted it more and once a few goals go in its only a matter of time before the heads drop.  Bury worked hard for their title last year and one things for certain is they have got the taste and want it again and that's why we go about our games as we do.  Four games in with only three goals conceded and a mighty fifty five goals scored and not lost a league game in eighteen month. That's impressive and its all through hard graft. Congratulate yourselves girls because it gets better and better.

16/09/09    Haslingden Girls FC        V        Bury Girls & Ladies FC

Tonight we travelled up to Hazzy for one of our midweek fixtures against Haslingden Girls FC and having arrived at the ground, we must congratulate them on a absolute fantastic ground and facilities.  With a pitch you could of played bowls on.  I think we were expecting to beat Haslingden and so we went about our business of trying to win this game. To be honest we were the better side and it showed but these girls we played are a credit to the game and without them we wouldn't of had a game. These players must of been the nicest girls we've ever played against and didn't commit a single foul on our girls and I think we only committed two all match which in itself is also a credit to our girls. We did try and talk tactics but gave up when half the girls held their hands out for mints. In the second half we told our girls to pass and move and try not to score and moved people to different positions but trying to tell girls not to score is harder than you think. In the last ten minutes I must admit that our girls looked like they'd been crushed by a piano... yes they were very low key... so I will leave you on that note....

13/09/09    Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V        Academy Juniors FC

Bury's second game of the season and today's opponents were Academy Juniors , last years runners up in the league behind moi (us).  Academy had been recruiting players during the summer break and must of had the belief they could take our crown.  Bury had also recruited players and didn't want to give their crown up. We knew this one was going to be a mega battle from the off and so we were ready for the task ahead. Game on and within 5 minutes of the start Academy break our airtight defence and one nil it is. Bury regroup and now had the biggest wake up call then just as we go about playing our fantastic football Academy split our defence with a player to run onto. Two yards clearly offside, Academy score and the mighty league and cup champs are two nil down. Half time whistle blows and now Academy think they will go on and win the game. Bury had very different ideas and we weren't bothered that Academy were 2-0 up because we had only lent them these goals and came out for the second half like the class act we know we are. Defeat wasn't an option and when you haven't lost a league game since the 29th march 2008, well that's 18 months and we weren't going to lie down and surrender. Bury went straight on the attack and looked awesome and within three minutes of the restart Bury go at goal and Jenna smashes the ball into net, 2-1 and were back in it. We are now looking so good we're sure we will be on the back page of The Sun tomorrow and it was only a matter of time before we get the equaliser and to be precise it was two minutes as Nambo unleashes an absolute net breaker possibly the goal of the season and 2-2 it is. We've broke the camels back and now we are rampant and while Academy are having their own inquest we bag another by the one and only leagues top scorer Courtney. Three goals in five minutes and it was now tasting real good. Exactly four minutes later Bury score another and we must apologise to Nambo for saying her goal was goal of season up to now as Lizzie has just equalled it with her own missile that well and truly ripped the net. Academy must of wondered what had hit 'em and six minutes later they got another taster as Lizzie ran riot and bamboozled and gets Bury's fifth. We are now looking so beautiful we are sure a modelling agency want to sign us up.  Time has nearly ran its course and Academy pull one back but its too late and Bury take the spoils yet again with our quality squad of fine football players. Our record breaking wins goes on.

08/09/09        Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V        Bridge Colts FC

Bury finally got their first match of the season going against Bridge Colts and finally we were able to pick from a full squad instead of the bear minimum we've had all summer. Bury won the toss and the captain picked the shallow end. Rust, what rust we went about our title defence with ruthlessness and must of looked like a tidal wave coming at the oppositions. To their credit they held out for precisely ten minutes before the gates opened and Lizzie bags our first with a sort of flick/shot but anyway it went above the keeper and the die hards erupted with applause as the ball hits back of net. Bury pile it on and five minutes later wonder striker Courtney gets her first of the season but one thing is for sure it wont be her last. Next up pops Lizzie again and ends her drought once and for all. 3-0 Bury and now we turn up the thermometer and midfield mistro new signing Lois gets in on the act and gets her debutant league goal. Bury are enjoying it now and before the half ends Courtney and Hannah get on the sheet to make it 6-0 before the team went for their carrots.  Second half starts and we went back to work and upped the anty and upped it we did but lets give some credit here to Bridge Colts for battling their little hearts out but we just wouldn't be denied of the task in hand and Bridge had to defend in numbers which did make our task harder but we were like bulls in a china shop and ended up as eleven nil winners and that was after it had gone dark. Thats why we cover all aspects of our games and that is why we give our girls carrots at half time so they could see in the dark.. i'm waffling... the end.

26/08/09        Bury Girls & Ladies FC U14        V        Academy Juniors FC U15    (Friendly)

Bury's pre-season friendlies continued with an evening match against the year older girls of Academy Juniors under 15's and the league champs Bury knew we would be in a tuffy as the year older girls of Academy had finished third in their league, so we had to be up for this one. Bury yet again had girls on holiday and we also had to take turns in net as our keeper is still on holiday and with no subs to choose from whatsoever. Game on and both teams went into battle and battled hard they did. Not a game for softies and that's why both teams rolled the sleeves up and got stuck in.  For the first ten minutes it ebbed and flowed this way and that and then we started to camp in Academy's half. Out of the blue Academy broke and at speed went at our stand in keeper and one nil it was. Bury regrouped and re-camped in Academy's half and before the whistle blew for half time we must of had 25 shots at goal but everything was put wide or over the bar or stopped with fantastic saves by the Academy keeper. In our opinion we were the better team but just couldn't convert.  Half time and pep talk done and out for second half full of confidence of overturning this 1-0 deficit. Yet again we threw everything at the Academy keeper but the kitchen sink but she wasn't to be denied.  Then yet again we were hit on the break and Academy ran towards our goal and ref blows for foul committed, free kick took and goal, it was 2-0 to Academy and Bury are facing a very rare defeat.  We are still playing good stuff and firing shots galore at the goal but it surely just wasn't to be our day.  We just couldn't understand how so many shots at goal was ending in nothing but completely dominating a game but losing 2-0. Things were to get worse and Academy get their third and now it was either be lambs to the slaughter or stand up and be counted. Bury took the latter and went at Academy like true footballers and were acting like adults even though the parents were acting like teenagers. The game was approaching its last few minutes and Bury's character was now put to the test and finally we were rewarded with a goal that we thought would never come, 3-1 with time running out and we pile it on once more and within a minute of the restart we bag another, 3-2 and Academy are in shock .  Time has almost ran out but Bury now want it so bad and like Custer's last stand we turn the screw and hit the equaliser. Three goals in three minutes to get the deserved draw.  It was classic stuff for the die hards. Quality football by two quality teams.  Well done to the girls for never giving up, remember girls ability can take you to the top but it takes character to keep you there.

22/08/09        Euxton Girls FC    V        Bury Girls & Ladies FC     (Friendly)

Bury in one of their pre-season friendlies went up to Chorley to take on Euxtons 14s and Bury were unable to field a full team due to holidays in exotic places. Bury only had ten players and so we were at a disadvantage and with no keeper as well, so the girls rotated in net and did a splendid job.  I think its fair to say both teams were a bit rusty during the first ten minutes and it was a case of things settling down. It wasn't the best of starts and I think the Manager thought she was an Archaeologist "yes her career was nearly in ruins".  After ten minutes or so things did settle down and Bury opened their account  and went then on a goal spree with Courtney the league and clubs top scorer ending the half with eight goals and left pegger Emily getting one herself.  Second half starts and the girls wanted more of the same and usually Bury destroy teams in the second half of games but Euxton to their credit battled hard with us and kept us at bay with their own fitness. Bury did score more goals and ended the game as 14-0 winners but this score did flatter us and make no mistake we worked hard for this and Euxton did give us a game of quality football . Bury also fielded their new signing of midfielder Lois who has slotted in with ease and has made this team even stronger and scored on her debut.

07/06/09    Woodbank Girls FC (U14)    V        Bury Girls & Ladies FC (U13)

Friendly as part of Woodbank's Football Festival and Fun Day at Nuttall Park

Bury having finished league and cup champions were taking a well earned break and only ticking over at training when we got the invite to play the 14s of Woodbank.  We obliged and so our 13s went down to Woodbank and it was game on.  Our 13s were squad players missing for this one and we were expecting a bit of a challenge from the 14s of Woodbank.  Bury immediately took charge and went our usual route of route one and we made the keeper earn her spurs and this she did by keeping out Burys13s early efforts.  It was only a matter of time though as Bury broke through the 14s defence time and time again then on the stroke of ten minutes we got our first well deserved goal straight from the corner as Lizzie curled one to end up in back of net.  The 14s pulled one back instantly but it was clearly offside but it was a friendly so we weren't bothered and we just went about of work again and then Nambo pops up and makes it 2-1 to the 13s.  This was the turning point and Bury's super strikers went about their business in fine style and Courtney the leagues top scorer ran rampant and dually scored two on the trot to make it 4-1.  Woodbank managed to get another back to go into half time at 4-2.  Second half and we changed things a little and because it was a friendly we let people wander into different positions and to be honest we were still unstoppable and we must of been the keepers worst nightmare and that's with us with a bit of rust showing and a depleted squad.  Courtney goes on to score another two before the final whistle and show all the oppositions and their supporters that Bury's under 13s are in the top 3 or 4 in the country and we actually had 4 players for this one who could still play at under 12.

24/05/09    The League Cup Final

Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V        Myerscough JFC

Finally the day had come to play our League cup Final after cancellations and then bad weather spoiling things and so we made the decision to play at our oppositions ground as its the perfect venue for football.  With Bury already being League Champions we also wanted the League Cup but nothings ever certain in cup games and so today we had to be business like, and that's exactly how we were.  In what was the hottest day of the year we came out fast and took it straight to Myerscough and battled hard for every single ball and on the stroke of four minutes Liz hits the first of the day and the massive following Bury took to this game erupted with delight.  We were playing good stuff and keeping their keeper busy but couldn't find that second goal to calm the nerves, then up pops the right back Maz and unleashes and back of the net it is, 2-0 and now we are flowing and in the space of twelve minutes we hit four goals , the last three from Courtney and this taking us into half time with a 5-0 lead.  We had now broke the camels back and could relax a bit more and as usual change around a couple of positions for the second half.  Bury's back four who are usually airtight did the cardinal sin of all putting their arms up for a handball to which the ref played on, Myerscough pounced and beat the keeper.  We were now rolling on rolling off because of the heat as even our super fit players were starting to cramp but it didn't stop super striker Courtney from hitting another then being subbed and then left-pegger Emily hitting Bury's last goal of the day.  Myerscough had their last chance of the day right on full time but didn't convert as our super brave keeper dived to her right and put the ball wide as she nutted the upright, brave stuff it was.  Final whistle and we are the league cup holders.  Every single player on this pitch today was fabulous and worked their socks off for their team.  Brilliant it was and even better lifting that trophy.  League and Cup double, not a bad season and cant wait until the start of next season.  Brilliant players who reaped the rewards of hard graft.

Bury Girls & Ladies FC                             V       Urmston Meadowside AFC

U13 North Valley League Champions           U13 South Manchester League Champions

Today's match was a top billing and a bit of a champions of champions match and who would have the bragging rights of to call themselves top team of all of Greater Manchester and Lancashire.  Urmston Meds had won the South Manchester Under 13s League and hadn't lost a single game and so they were playing us who had won the North Valley Under 13s League and who also hadn't lost a single game so this was a who blinks first may fall.  Game on and Bury went route one from the off, and went at Urmston at speed and after only two minutes on the clock the first goal was scored to which super striker Courtney celebrated.  We like the early goals as this makes us even better than what we already are.  Bury are looking good and even though the games only five minutes old we look like we are in control and then another great ball is laid off to Nam who turns the player and chips the keeper from twenty five yards.  2-0 and we are looking the part and on the stroke of ten minutes Courtney hits our third.  Urmston Meds could have quite easily of folded but to their credit they regrouped and sorted themselves out and came at us with some fantastic play of their own and went at our goal and skinned two defenders and bang, ball in net to make it 3-1.  Urmston Meds had now shook the shaky start off and looked very good and came back for more and even though we were a defender missing today for this match because of international duties we still kept them at bay and then on the break we hit them again when Lizzie fired one home.  Urmston just won't lie down and after a shot which our keeper spills,  Urmston pounce on the spilt ball and its banged in the net to make it 4-2.  We are playing brilliant football but a couple of silly mistakes are costing us dearly.  Time for a couple of changes in formation of the Bury team and off we go again and go we did and this time its Kim who goes at goal and gets Bury's fifth going into the break. Second half on and Bury start good again and are running the wings with Jenna and Kim doing the biz and putting perfect balls over into the box of which one gets cleared only for Nam to hit her second and Bury's sixth of the day.  I think this was the turning point now and it was just a matter of running out the time but Hannah had different ideas and got her first of the match then Courtney bagged another two and Hannah then had to hit one more and Bury's last to round things off at ten for the match.  Urmston Meds still looked okay but Bury's fitness training always shines through in the second half and I think this is why teams can't handle us over a course of a game.  Urmston to their credit had one final say in the match and scored the last goal of the game to round it off at 10-3.  Well done both teams.

05/04/09        Academy Junior Girls FC    V        Bury Girls & Ladies FC

The league champions today travelled up to AJ's to play their last league game of the season and as we knew this game would be a good battle as they always are against AJ's and they are 2nd in the league.  Having won the league last week we could of let the foot off the gas but we didn't as we wanted to go the entire season without a single loss or draw but we couldn't be sure because we knew AJ's have been our toughest opponents this year.  Anyhow game on and AJ's usually come out and fly at you but today Bury returned the favour and flew at AJ's and with only two minutes on the clock we are on goal and Courtney unleashes with only one outcome and that outcome is ball in net.  This is the exact start we wanted and AJ's had to regroup instantly or they would of been put to sword as Bury were looking awesome.  AJ's chose to regroup and made Bury work their socks off and came at Bury's goal a few times only to be thwarted by the best defence in the league.  Half way through the first half Bury are piling it on and we knew our second goal was on its way, it was just a matter of time before it came, and that's exactly what happened when the perfect ball got threaded through to Liz who bangs it into the net to make it 2-0 to Bury and this is how it stayed going into the break.  Bury start the second half looking good and in control and playing some great football and being relentless in our quest for more goals. Our wingers were causing havoc down the flanks and put in some excellent balls and to which Courtney gets on the end of one, then dummies the keeper and put Bury's third goal in the net.  We now have the game won but AJ's have different ideas and are still causing Bury problems and break through and are heading at Bury's goal when Holly puts in a good stalwart challenge but the referee saw it as a penalty and AJ's score it to bring it back to 3-1 and lift them.  It may of lifted them but it also lifted Bury who went straight on the attack and were on goal when Liz is brought crashing down in the box.  Clear  cut penalty it was .  Goal kick awarded.   AJ's coming down the right wing skin a player and go at goal only for Lozza to go for ball in a 50/50 challenge against an AJ's player of equal braveness of which the outcome is two very brave girls flat out injured and this game had to be stopped for ten minutes while both girls are treated and applauded when they rose to their feet.  It was hearts on your sleeves stuff.    going into the last ten minutes Bury's fitness is pulling them on as it always does and we are let loose again on one of our attacks and Courtney yet again goes at goal and gets her umpteenth hatrick of the season.    Game ends and Bury finish as 4-1 worthy winners and we applaud both teams on another fantastic game and our dream of going the full season not losing a single game is achieved and what a season its been.  Next up the league cup final.. Cant wait..

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2008/9LEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2008/9LEAGUE CHAMPIONS....

Coming into today's match we knew we only needed a single point to become league champions but the opposition of which were last years defending champions Myerscough wanted to throw a spanner in the works and halt our march to that title.  The nerves were jangling and today the girls had to show their worth and stand up and be counted.  Two of the top two teams in the north battling for that elusive title and we knew before a ball had been kicked this was one of them games you would pay to watch if there were turnstiles.  Game on and straight from the off Bury looked focussed and sharp and we wanted it like nothing before.  Some of the finest football you could witness was being played and as we do we put some fantastic passes together and split the Myerscough defence to go at the keeper with only one outcome.  One nil the shakers and a great start to the game.  With eleven players playing like pros we now knew nothing would stop us today and we were relentless to our cause.  Myerscough were themselves playing good football but Bury I think would of beat anyone in the country today.  After more great passes Bury score again and we are getting closer to that title.  Going into the break we lead 2-0 and our pep talk was simple, more of the same please.  Second half starts and we keep the focus and belief and want a bit more and so go at Myerscough again and our prayers are answered with another great goal by Courtney.  3-0 and were turning the screw and Myerscough are now having to defend a corner and another great in-swinging corner and after a goal mouth scramble the ball gets cleared to land in the perfect place to which a ball could ever be landed, the right foot of Nambo and to which she let go with bad intentions. A 30 yarder to which not a keeper in the land could of saved. It hit the bar, came down with back spin and came back out.  The Bury players wanting a goal, only for the ref to say she didn't see it cross the line.  Now the linesman steps in and who is a Myerscough person and says it crossed the line, goal awarded and well done linesman for being a good fair bloke.  Myerscough, even though they are 4-0 nil down are still fighting for everything and come at Bury with all guns blazing and are awarded a well earned corner to which they to have a specialist corner taker who can in-swing them with ease.  She does just that and it swings in to land at the near post and spin up onto Lozzer's hand .  Penalty awarded and Myerscough calmy put the ball in the net to give them hope and lift them.  4-1 and this game still ain't won and Myerscough to their credit split our defence and come down the middle and in a sprint Holly beats their striker to the ball and goes to clear her lines when disaster strikes and she kicks the ball past our own keeper and into the net.  4-2 but times running out and now its time for Bury to get their second wind and we get another corner and in it comes and Jenna gets this one and bags what is the eventual winner..    A brilliant game of football to which we only needed a point but got all three...   Time to celebrate with champagne on the pitch.   Well done every girl in this team who trains as hard as nails every week and puts the work in tirelessly week after week.  you well and truely deserved this title and to the parents who turn up week after week and are as dedicated to this team as the team are themselves.  A big thankyou.

22/03/09        Bridge Colts FC        V        Bury Girls & Ladies FC

Bury's match today was up at Norden against Bridge Colts in wind that must of been pushing 70mph in gusts. Bridge started with the wind heading straight for our net and we must admit this helped them out no end.  The Bridge Colts players could literally tap at the ball in their own half and it would end up in the Bury penalty area and our keeper who has usually got a mega kick on her struggled to get the ball out on occasion but as the top team we gritted them teeth and broke through the defence of Bridge Colts to take a well deserved 4-0 lead going into the interval.  Maybe it could of been a lot more but the wind was playing havoc but our two strikers Lizzie and Courtney kept to the task and fed the goal as you do.  Half time pep talk of ...... (its a secret I can't tell you).  Anyway we start the second half with the wind on our side .  This did help us as our keeper didn't touch the ball once in the second half but some of our shots that missed carried on a few hundred yards down in to the car park.  Credit to Bridge Colts they had to defend and defend well they did.  Bury piled it on and with some nifty crosses from both flanks Bridge handled the ball in the area to give Bury a penalty.  Holly takes it and fires it hard and low and in the net.  Bury keep the pressure up and Bridge concede a corner to which Nambo steps up to take and what a corner it was, the bend was unreal as it heads for the spot only to spin in mid air to go into top corner of net.  Bridge still wouldn't lie down and surrender and still tried their hardest but Bury wouldn't retreat a inch and next up Lizzie got another goal for her fourth of the day in her new boots (SHE'S SPOILT).  Bury's final goal of the day came after Hannah was going at goal, and somehow the ball got smashed into her face and then Holly pounced to get her second of the day and Bury's 100th league goal of the season while poor Hannah received treatment.  Another good display in bad windy conditions against a team of doggedly determined girls who deserve to be higher up the table.

15/03/09        Cadley Girls FC        V        Bury Girls & Ladies FC

Today we travelled away up to Cadley and on a perfect day for playing footie.  Bury and Cadley started off well with both teams coming out fast . Bury were confident and as league leaders had to show our oppositions what we are made of and so we went about our business doing just that and after five minutes we breach the Cadley defence and beat the keeper to go one nil up.  After ten minutes and now controlling things we are in total attack mode and go two nil up.  Bury were now in the mood and went about things with surgical skill and before we had stopped celebrating the second goal we had scored our third and you could hear the whispers, was this going to be a 20 niller. Not on your nellie, Cadley regrouped and came at Bury with their sleeves rolled up and weren't going to be by any way of means pushovers.  Cadley came down the middle and from what Bury thought was some great defending and ball clearing, disaster strikes and a penalty is awarded and is cooly taken and hit at bullet like speed into the keepers bottom left side goal. Cadley have their life line and this lifts them .  Whistle goes and its half time and Bury are in a comfy lead of 3-1 but Cadley finished the half very strong.  Bury start the second half strong but Cadley see our keeper on the right hand side of the box and let rip with a screamer which pierced the airtight defence of which Bury have, to end up in the back of the net.  Bury were caught napping and now it was wake up time.  Cadley are now in the mood and looking dangerous and being lifted by the fans they have.  Bury had to regroup and start to work or we could see things going seriously pear shaped.  We had to up the anti and this we did .  We rolled the sleeves up got the shovels out and dug deeper than deep and went at Cadley with only one thing on our minds and that was goal and it came half way through the second half to finally start to sink Cadley who had battled so hard .  Bury now had a two goal cushion but they are greedy and wanted more and our two mega strikers ended up bagging a pair of hatricks after being fed by the midfield with some superb balls .  Bury finish the match in control and we yet again showed when we need to we can up a gear.  Hats off to Cadley who gave it their best shot.

The Bury girls travelled up to Myerscough for this game and on a pitch that can only be described as pure quality . Myerscough won the toss and made Bury face the sun which was directly over the oppositions bar.  Good call because we would of done exactly the same.  Anyhow game on and Bury knew we were in for a toughy today as Myerscough are lying third in the league with games in hand and they were and still are potential champions just as Bury are so we knew we couldn't slip one little bit or we would be put to the sword.  Right from the off Bury looked good and took the game straight to Myerscough and made them work their socks off as Bury were peppering  their goal with some good shots, only for them to go wide or some great tackling or shot blocking from the defence of Myerscough to stop them going in.  Bury were in control and after a succession of corners that were cleared by the Myerscough girls we changed our corner taker to offer a different approach and this was roy of the rovers stuff as Lizzie bent it like Beckham and straight from the corner it goes straight in the goal to make it one nil to the shakers.  We wanted another goal before the half time whistle but it wasn't to be and Myerscough finished the first half strong.  Bury start the second half as they started the first half, very strong and went at goal to which Myerscough cleared two bullet shots off the line, top quality defending.  Myerscough came back at Bury but we were not to be beat and our midfield and defence held almost everything coming Bury's way.  Then we went on the attack on one of our breaks and who other than Courtney gets on the end of it to make it two nil.  Bury held on for the win but we had to work for this one.  We were a complete unit today with everyone mucking in.  Quality stuff from quality players from two quality teams.

25/01/09        Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V     Academy Juniors FC    (Friendly)

Bury travelled away today for the top of the table clash between us and Academy Juniors.  We had trained proper hard for this match and we obviously knew we were in for a mega tough battle against AJ's and then disaster strikes and the ref doesn't show up.  After a lot of discussing and phone calls it was decided that this game will be played as a friendly only and it was also decided that Lucy would ref the game even though she is a Bury ladies player from our own club, she is also a qualified referee.  Game on and even though this game was only a friendly I think we all know that it would be played like a cup final.  AJ's won the toss and kicked off and came at Bury at 100 mph with all guns blazing.  Did this shock Bury, no we took it in our stride, soaked it up and countered with our own attacks and then within the first five minutes one of our super strikers runs at goal with defenders chasing her down but she unleashes a bullet of a shot which found the net with precision and to which I don't think any keeper could have saved.  One nil to the shakers and a great start.  Were AJ's rattled to the core, no, they came straight back at us and both teams didn't give a inch and put in some absolute stalwart tackling.  Tough girls in a tough sport rolling their sleeves up and digging deep for their teams.  Both teams took the knocks , but the magic sponges came out and everyone battled on.  Half time came and Bury were still in the narrowest of leads and knew we couldn't afford to slip up in the second half or AJ's would pounce on us with surgical skill.  Second half starts and it goes the same way as first half with two mega teams going hammer and tongue with both teams upping the anti and trying to get goal bound only for both superb defences or keepers making fine saves and blocks.  Bury go on one of their attacks and go at AJ's goal to which Courtney fired another bullet at goal, the keeper gets a hand to it, but it finds the back of the net after trickling over the line. The bury fans are delirious with delight but this only lasted a second or two as the goal got ruled offside.  Bury and AJ's battled on to the final whistle and both teams cheered each other and shook hands and showed the respect due after such a titanic battle.  Proper battle and another clean sheet for Bury.  Good team performance.

18/01/09    Bury Girls & Ladies FC            V        AGSA

AGSA were our opponents today in what was our first match in the league since November apart from the cup game and a friendly we had played and so we were expecting a bit of rustiness to have settled in.   Game on and within a couple of minutes Courtney fires Bury into the lead with a quality goal.  Bury now took the foot off the gas and allowed AGSA back into the game and for the next fifteen minutes AGSA fought tooth and nail for every ball and Bury's rustiness was showing and then out of the blue captain fantastic Holly unleashed a shot from the halfway line and there was only one place this ball was going and that was the back of the net.  This was just what we needed to lift our game and slowly make AGSA's hearts sink.  Bury now went on the rampage and had attack after attack after attack and kept the AGSA keeper mega busy and saving some quality shots from the Bury players of which some have great power.  AGSA give it their best shot but Bury were just to good and the goals started to go in with Lizzie getting a couple, Courtney getting another hat trick, Hannah W, Holly, Naomi and Mairead Emily Bernadette Clodagh Burleigh even bagging one (fluke).  As usual our back four were superb and kept out every attack that was made by AGSA with our keeper only having to make one save.  The midfield held and looked fantastic and our strikers were awesome and as a unit everyone played well.  Applause also goes out to Hannah J who played her first match for us and did very well.  We may have won this game 10-0 but I kid you not we worked for it and our fitness is second to none and our team doesn't do i'm tired.

30/11/08        Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V        Thornton Cleveleys Girls FC

Today we entertained Thornton Cleveleys in our sixth league game of the season and having never played them before didn't really know what to expect but as usual we had trained hard and were biting at the bit for the whistle to start this game.  Bury immediately went for the Thornton net and scored within a minute or two.  This was the start we wanted and then within another minute we had scored another .  Bury were now on fire and put some perfect passing together knocking the ball around and switching play from one side to another.  Thornton did try their hardest but Bury were not to be denied and as the half time whistle blew Bury had a nice and comfty 9-0 lead.  Thornton came out for the second half with more determination and you could see they wanted something from the game but the Bury girls just swarmed the game and never looked under any pressure.  We obviously had this game won and so went about changing the positions of the girls and put the defence in forward positions and forwards in defence and Loz W scored but Holly and Maz couldn't hit a goal between 'em (chocolate fireguards spring to mind).  Then out of the blue our superb keeper Mel runs an entire half of the pitch and scores a blinder.  She maybe our new Ronaldo.  All players today were excellent and as usual they could have gone on forever because they are so fit.  Final whistle blows and we waited for the final score tally off our new goal tally manager who was keeping score with a pen with no ink (hhmmmm Flintstone).  Think we should sack her.  Anyway, the final score was 20-0 and well done girls you were awesome and Thornton Cleveleys who tried their hardest and we wish you well.

23/11/08        Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V        Bridge Colts Girls FC

Bury were entertaining Bridge Colts today and the weather could only be described as brassick.  Bury took immediate control and within 20 seconds Lizzie had unleashed an Exocet missile which had bad intentions but it whistled over the bar.  I think its near Mexico at this present time.  Within five minutes Bury had had 5 or 6 shots but the Bridge Colts keeper had dealt with them all.  Bury finally got off the mark when Courtney bagged her first of the afternoon.  With 25 minutes gone it was still at one nil and we had hit the bar ,the posts and almost everything else but we couldn't hit the back of the net.  Bridge Colts battled and kept us at bay and defended well and fought like warriors to keep us at bay.  Bury finally hitting another two before half time to make it 3-0 at half time.  Maybe the Bury problem was they thought they could just turn up and win and they were having the shock of their lives because Bridge were not the pushovers the girls thought they would be .  The weather wasn't helping and believe you me it was sideways hail stones and the snot was round the side of me cheek.  Anyway we came out second half and finally got our act together and broke Bridge Colts down as we do with most sides and we finally scored another ten goals in the second half to end the game as thirteen nil winners. A good hard fought result considering the conditions and well done girls for digging deep .  well done Bridge for trying your hardest and we are sure you will go up the table as the season goes on.  Happy Birthday to Lizzie rather an appropriate score on your 13th birthday.  And thanks to my groundsmen (Stig and Shakalaka) for doing a fine job of the pitch, and their supervisor for making sure they had covered all areas.

09/11/08        Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V     Academy Juniors FC    (Cup Game)

This was our 1st round cup game and we were drawn against Academy Juniors and so we knew we were in for a thrilling match as both teams are top of their game at the moment with both teams having good runs in the league and both teams knowing one mistake could cost you dearly.  We are sure Academy trained hard for this one just as Bury did and believe you me we had to pull out all the stops for this victory.  Academy had their chances and from a cross into the box we managed to head into our own net.  Bury went straight back at Academy and with Lizzie sort of meandering about in midfield the ball fell sweetly for her to unleash one of her rockets that dipped under the bar to make it 1-1 at half time. Both teams were now going for glory with the second half going the same way as first.  Then after a cross into the box by Bury, Academy slice the ball into their own net.  Bury held on and in our own opinion deserved the victory but make no mistake Academy can certainly play football.

26/10/08    Mini Friendly Tournament at AGSA

We were delighted to be invited to this tournament the previous week by AGSA and we duly accepted.  Weather conditions could only be described as horrendous and most people thought it would be called off.  The first venue of Accrington Stanley was a no no and we had to change venues at the last minute.

First game for Bury was against AGSA who we played in the league the previous week.  We knew this would be a tough game and the conditions didn't help and so our pass and move strategy went out the window because of the saturated ground and we just had to bang the ball up front for the strikers to bag the goals.  After what seemed like forever we found the net and took control and fought for everything and in the end took  a 5-0 win but we did fight for this win against a determined AGSA side who on their day would give anyone a run for their money.

Bury's second game was against Mill Hill Girls FC from Blackburn and we didn't quite no what to expect as we had never played these girls at this age group but soon found out that these girls could also play and they also made us fight for every ball and got a few shots off to which our keeper dealt with.  Bury finally took control and slowly picked away at Mill Hill until we had the game won. A good 4-0 win.

Bury were now in the final against Cestria who had also won all their games.  Cestria come from near Sunderland in the North East and are one of the top teams in the country who have a Scottish international within their team (as we were told at half time).  We had previously met Cestria in a tournament in Skelmersdale in the Summer and beat them 1-0 in a quality match.  Just like Bury, Cestria had also never lost at eleven a side and this match was billed across all the country as someone's '0' as got to go.  This game was huge and both teams wouldn't give a inch and it ebbed and flowed from one end to another with both teams rolling their sleeves up and showing their grit and determination.  With Bury breaking down the left wing Charlotte went at the keeper and lobbed her from 18yards to take a 1-0 lead.  The game wasn't won yet and Cestria had to gamble and throw everything at Bury but Bury soaked it up and went back at Cestria and could have gone 2 or 3-0 nil up but for some great defenders from the North East.  With only 4 minutes left on the clock Bury hand balled on the edge of the box to give Cestria a lifeline.  Free kick took and a goal mouth scramble and disaster strikes as Cestria score from a yard out.   Final whistle blows and another quality game ends in probably a fair result 1-1.  Now we head for the dreaded penaltys which is so unfair on the girls who had played their hearts out all game.  Luckily Cestria missed more than Bury and for the second time in our history we beat Cestria (3-2 on penaltys).  Credit must go to both keepers who pulled off some great saves and held their nerve for their teams.

The plan now is to go up to the North East to play Cestria as I am sure they must want revenge and we will oblige them in the near future.  Two quality teams playing quality football.

Big thanks to Willie and Paul from AGSA who put it all together  and the ref who also was ace.  Thank you to the girls from Cestria, AGSA and Mill Hill for making it a great day.  The sportsmanship displayed was a credit all involved.

19/10/08        AGSA        V        Bury Girls & Ladies FC

On Sunday we played Accrington Stanley and we were all looking forward to it indeed!! From kick off, Accrington displayed some lovely football. However, 5 minutes into the game, Lizzie scored a wonder goal and then a few minutes later she scored again!  For 15 minutes or so afterwards, the game settled down but it just wasn’t Accrington’s day as they scored an own goal from a corner taken by Nam to take the score to 3-0 to Bury. Two minutes later Hannah made it 4-0 and then Kim also added to the score sheet.  Soon after one of Hannah’s goals was ruled offside but it didn’t matter as she scored again almost immediately! However, we all know Accrington deserved a goal and they got that indeed to take the score to 6-1!  Then just as the whistle blew, Hannah scored again to get her hat-trick! She was on top-form!!

Half time Accrington 1–7 Bury

As Bury were in a comfortable position, Diana did her usual and decided to try the squad in different positions.  Both Hannah and then Maz went in goal and each made some good saves.  Defenders became strikers and strikers went in defence! Still, two minutes into the second hand Kim scored her second and just a few minutes later Lizzie got her hat-trick. Ellie and Lauren W (with some help from a ricochet!) also both scored fine goals! Unfortunately, a shot from Holly went wide but only just!! Very unlucky to the star captain!  And just before the final whistle, another goal from Kim gave her a well deserved hat-trick.

Final score Accrington 1 – 12 Bury

Overall a good first half performance gave the team an opportunity to try some different positions and formations.  Player of the match had to go to Nam as she displayed some fantastic passes and controlled the midfield area. Very well done to Nam. However Accrington never let their heads drop and they were a good side.  We wish them luck in their future games and Bury girls would like to thank them for their part in a good match!

19/10/08        AGSA        V        Bury Girls & Ladies FC

Bury followed the scent of Hollands Pies to find Accrington Stanley up in the hills of deepest Lancashire and so the sat navs could of gone in the bin.  I'm sure the Harry Potter films are made here.  Anyway we were meeted and greeted by the management of AGSA and what a splendid bunch of warm welcoming great people they are.  Game on and both teams got stuck in and Accrington played some fine football and they have got some great players in their squad with a great attitude towards football.  Bury know they have to dig deep in all their league games as this is a very hard league, and so we treat our oppositions with the uttermost respect as one slip up can cost you dearly and so we went about our work in fine style.  I don't think anyone can disagree that Bury weren't the better side but the score didn't justify the fighting spirit the AGSA side have and when teams heads start to go down when they are losing, Accrington's didn't and in fact they tried their hardest to the final whistle but it just wasn't their day.  We must congratulate ourselves on another very good performance of high quality football and as yet again our fitness and stamina training is second to none and we haven't actually peeked yet.  This has got to be one of the best oiled machines in the north and long may it continue.

12/10/08        Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V        Cadley Girls FC

It was a warm October day for a football match.  We knew Cadley were indeed a good side, and Bury would have to be in top form to beat them!

From kick-off Cadley put pressure on the defence and playing balls superbly to the wings. Bury had to defend well.

It was a long battle until Courtney broke the deadlock in 20 minutes.

Then, 15 minutes later Déjà-Vu occurred and Courtney fired another home!

Half time Bury 2 – 0 Cadley

Cadley were raring to go as the whistle blew for the 2nd half.

They sent a few defenders on a couple of good runs.  Holly put in some fantastic tackles whilst the fans showed their appreciation of the great football being played by both sides.  Magic!

From a good pass, Lizzie was on fire and nailed one right in the back of the net. Cadley’s excellent keeper saved a shot from Nam and left Ellie to finish it off! Unlucky keeper!

Lauren K had a well deserved goal and Lizzie bagged her 2nd of the game within minutes of the final whistle.

The manager and the fans were delighted with the performance by the whole squad. Mel held her concentration throughout the match and the defence of Maz, Holly, Lauren W and Emily/Ellie were outstanding all game!

Midfield of Lauren K, Nam,Lizzie,Jenna,Ellie,Charlotte,Nicola and Kim (Taking a deep breath now)…. were incredible.

The strikers were phenomenal which were Courtney, Lizzie, Kim and Hannah.

This was a great win today… Player of the match was well deserved for Jenna who was one of the fastest on the pitch and put in some excellent crosses for the strikers.

After the match, the parents decided to dash home and have some milkshakes and marshmallows to celebrate!

28/08/08        Lammack Juniors FC        V     Bury Girls & Ladies FC

'Pre-season friendly'

Bury travelled to Blackburn expecting a hard match as Lammack Juniors won their league last season.  But Bury took control from kick off.

Lammack played well with midfield feeding the balls through to the attackers but the defence of Holly, Ellie, Maz and Loz W handled it perfectly.  It wasn’t long before Kim knocked one in from a lovely cross from Jenna and some good vision from Courtney to get the ball to Kim.  Five minutes later, Courtney did a 1-2 pass with Lauren K for a well deserved goal from Loz K!  Soon Courtney’s hard work paid off as she also struck it into the net.  For Lammack Juniors, it was relief when the whistle for half time blew!

Half time – Lammack Juniors 0 – 3 Bury FC

However it wasn’t all glamour at half time as one of our defenders had an injury from Sundays’ tournament. But Loz W put on a brave face and played on.

The whistle for the second half blew and Bury were determined to keep the lead. Lammack Juniors were still fighting though but luckily Bury bagged another goal when Charlotte found power in her legs and placed it in the top corner! Two minutes later, Lammack won a free kick but unfortunately it wasn’t cleared and ended up in the net.  There was a sudden spark in all the Lammack players as they got themselves in the game, pressurising the defence to call for back-up from the midfield.  However, it all cooled down when Maz played a brilliant through ball to Hannah who finished it off!  Bury scored another goal when Jenna put a perfect through ball to Kim. Another goal followed when 5 minutes later Kim took it past the keeper and shot on an open goal to make it 7-1 to the shakers! Then from a good goal-kick from Mel, Hannah got on the end of it and scored!!  We want to see some more of those Mel please!!  Soon you will be scoring from your net! A couple of minutes later Nam did some good communication telling Lizzie to leave it as she shot and scored!! Another goal went in for Courtney and then Courtney went for a hat-trick but hit the post just for Loz K to hit it in!

Thank god when Lizzie scored because she really deserved it with the effort she put in the game. A couple of minutes before fulltime Loz K hit a volley. Nearly everyone looked away as we thought it was going over but with her quality, she lobbed the keeper!! That was one of the best goals of the match!! Soon after – the whistle for full time blew.

Well done girls!! Maz, Hol, Loz W, Charlotte and Ellie were solid at the back. Emily, Nam, Lizzie, Loz K and Jenna were all on top form. And the strikers – Kim, Courtney and Hannah took all their chances when needed!

27/08/08        Urmston Meadowside AFC U14s        V        Bury Girls & Ladies U13s

'Pre-season friendly'

On this “I don’t know whether to rain or stay dry” day Bury were looking for a good challenge as everyone had all rested from Sunday’s tournament, and they got that indeed!!

Straight from the whistle Urmston Meadowside were pressuring the defence, but with the solid defence the keeper was safe!  After a couple of minutes Bury got into a passing and running routine (as they always do on their good days) and took control of the game but the opponents never gave up the fight!

Then we took the lead with a superb shot from Courtney. With the midfield helping the defence to keep the lead secure, we were looking like the Bury we normally are!!

Goal after Goal went in. One was Jenna's where she beautifully controlled it with her knee and swerved it in the top corner! Then near half time Urmston managed to sneak one in from the winger who was clearly one of their best and fastest players.

Half time – Urmston Meadowside 1 – 4 Bury…

The manager didn’t have much to say as Bury were playing like Real Madrid… She did pick on a few little mistakes but nothing is perfect on a football pitch!!

It was obvious from the start of the half that Urmston’s manager had had a few things to say to his team because they were putting a lot of pressure on the away team!

Charlotte did some great runs and put in some great tackles helping out the defence. Lauren K was her normal self – her skill on the ball was a pleasure to watch!  Lizzie was very strong in her positions and didn’t let the older girls push her around!!  Anyway the game continued and Bury bagged some more great goals. Kim – from a difficult angle - managed to get the ball in the net. No-one on the pitch knew what had happened. We all just saw the net swish. There wasn’t one person who had their mouths shut. It was a quality goal!! Another was when Courtney had a shot from near the half way line. She managed to squeeze it through a couple of defenders. One parent shouted “You’ll never score from there!” But luckily it went through the keepers legs!! Nam let off a screamer with her left foot which almost pulled the net out of the ground! In the end it turned out Urmston Meadowside 2 – 7 Bury.

Well done to all the girls! The defence of Maz, Hol, Loz W and Ellie remained strong throughout with some superb passes and tackles. The midfield of Courtney, Jenna, Lauren K, Nam, Emily and Charlotte played some delightful passes and shots. The strikers of Lizzie and Kim applied great pressure on the defence and the goalie. Our goalie – Mel-  had her usual solid performance and kept her concentration throughout the game making some good saves when needed.  I wasn’t joking about playing like Real Madrid!!

14/08/08        Woodbank Girls FC U14s        V        Bury Girls & Ladies FC U13s

'Pre-season friendly'

Bury travelled to Ramsbottom to play their first ever full size pitch away match against the top team of Woodbank Girls under 14's who only a couple of days before were in the local papers showing their trophys, cups and shields they had won during their successful season they had had.  Game on and from the whistle you could see Woodbank are a quality outfit and have school of excellence players who can play proper football who want and have the will to win.  For the first ten minutes both teams battled hard to take control with both teams not being shy to win the ball and both teams getting big shots off and both sets of defenders digging deep and being very brave with some absolute stalwart tackling.   Bury brought an outfit of thirteen players to this game with two players still being on holiday and this Bury outfit can truly say their isn't a single weak player in this squad and maybe this shone through in the end as Bury finally broke the deadlock after fifteen minutes with yet another quality goal  which started from mid, went to the wings, brought back in then unleashed, top corner, Ramsbottom almost exploded with the delight from the season ticket holder away fans.  Woodbank had to up the stakes and so they did and immediately went down the the throat of bury and at goal, to which the Bury keeper eventually picked up , only to be whistled by the ref who said it was a back pass.  This was to be Woodbank's chance to equalise and how they came so close, shot took and smash against the crossbar and back out and cleared.

To Bury's credit we now started to take control and stuck to the positionally perfect positions these girls are given which eventually pays off.  Woodbank after the break got a free kick after a push by a Bury defender and from the acute angle from the edge of the area they scored probably one the best goals of the game which was precisely smashed into the top corner of net.  This did lift Woodbank and they did get another two to three shots at the Bury goal only to be saved or put wide and one brave girl went one on one with our keeper only to come out injured and couldn't take part no more.   Another performance of pure quality.

09/08/08        Bury Girls & Ladies     V     Burnley Girls       'Pre-season friendly'

On a day that should have been one of them glorious August days were you need plenty of drinks and sun cream.  Well forget it, it was proper %$£*ing down and our ground was like a brolly shop and all the fake tans and mascara was running because of the rain and making the grass turn a purply black.  Burnley having never played under their new manager were keen to impress and for the first couple of minutes got stuck in and showed their worth but Bury kept their witt's about them and played some great football down the wings and within five  minutes took the lead with a Lizzie Evans screamer in the top corner of the net.  Bury now were totally dominant and were rolling the subs on and off so everyone got a fair share of the game and positions being swapped for final preparations before the season starts on 6/7 September.  To Burnley's credit they did have three defenders missing for this match and could only put ten players on the pitch due to holidays etc and when we meet in the league we are sure the result won't be as big as it was today.  To Bury's credit though we were almost perfect yet again with only a couple of things needing to be gone over in training.  Every girl should be proud today as you showed your footballing masterclass and the teamwork was second to none and yet again fitness played a vital part of which everybody could manage a full match with ease.

On a glorious May day Bury played their first ever game on a full size pitch against the year older girls of Brandlesholme and also now playing with the offside rule and getting themselves ready for a title challenge come next year.  The more experienced Brandlesholme must of thought the younger Bury team were going to be cannon fodder.  How wrong could they of been.  Bury where positionally perfect from the off and immediately broke through the defences of Brandlesholme and had shot after shot saved by the keeper (ex bury player).   Brandlesholme did hit Bury on the break and bagged the first goal of the match against play.  Bury immediately hit back and levelled when top scorer of the season Lizzie bagged Bury's 1st goal then within minutes Bury took the lead and went two one up and Brandlesholmes heads were starting to drop and has half time approached Bury with there clinical formation and play hit another two to go into half time with a 4-1 lead.  Second half and Bury wanted more and with their strict fitness training now reaping the rewards went for the kill and hit another two goals to take a comfortable lead.,

13/04/08    Woodbank Girls FC U13s    V     Bury Girls & Ladies FC U12s

'Friendly'

With Bury's league match scheduled for the 12th cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch Bury were happy to play Woodbank in a friendly.  Woodbank's U13s hadn't played for a couple of weeks and with a Cup Final coming up next week needed a warm up match to get rid of any match rust.  Bury on the other hand were happy to oblige as this allowed the girls to play on a bigger pitch and 9-a-side against an older side who have already played a season at 11-a-side, as Bury's U12s are now in the process of making the transition from small sided football to full size.

Bury started the game well and played some good passing football, not always easy when some of the players have not played together before.  Bury was also fielding some inexperienced players with Hollie on her 2nd match and Jenna her 3rd.  Soon Bury found themselves 1 - 0 up when a shot from Kim found its way between the keepers legs and into the back of the net.  Woodbank kept coming back strong and thanks to Mel in net Bury managed to maintain the lead for some time.  However after some end to end action Woodbank finally equalised then took the lead.  Bury didn't give up and tried to come back.  However, pitch conditions weren't helping either teams cause as the pitch became muddier and muddier.

Well done to all the girls involved and thanks to Woodbank.

Bury, expecting another battle (having played Bolton twice at home this season) were playing away at Bolton.  Knowing that the Bolton side would be up for it, Bury was ready from the off! Having snowed that morning it was a cold day but the sun was starting to shine.  With the Bury defence (Ellie and Holly) sending good balls through to Kim and Lizzie, Bury was soon on goal, with Charlotte coming in from the right, she scored a shocker from the edge of the area!  Hannah and most of the midfield had many chances at Bolton's keeper but none of the shots were lucky enough to go in! Charlotte, on fire this game popped in another goal for Bury. After half time Bolton came back to Bury's keeper Melissa, but Mel pulled off some good saves.  With the weather getting colder Bury was struggling to get another goal although the passing and moving skills were good.  Bury seemed to be missing that final touch.  The match was over and Bury was happy that they'd won this match - well played girls. After already losing to the mighty Blackpool, Bury new they were in for a tough game! from kick off bury got stuck in and were on form, as did Blackpool. with good passing from the Bury midfield of Hannah, Lizzie and Charlotte they were able to have numerous chances at goal, but Blackpool's keeper pulled off some good saves, until Hannah slipped in a goal just before halftime. However after half time Blackpool came back trying to get through the Bury defence of Holli and Ellie, and unfortunately Blackpool's striker managed to get to goal and scored in Bury's keeper Melissa Clive. Soon after Kimberli had a shot and missed. coming back into Bury's half Blackpool were given a corner, Nicola trying to defend stuck out her leg to clear the ball but ended up scoring a unfair own goal, but its happened to everyone on the team! Bury's heads were slowly going down and Blackpool placed another goal into the back of Burys net. the final whistle blew. Written by Holli Golding

16/03/08        Wigan Athletic Girls FC    V    Bury Girls & Ladies FC

Bury playing away travelled down to deepest darkest outpost town of Wigan where the women have tattoos and the men drink mild and they have annual pie throwing championships and this year's winner was Brenda with the beard.  That was all a joke by the way and the people of Wigan are the most friendly and homely people you can meet and its always a joy to play them.  Anyway both teams needed the win and I think both teams expected a tough game.  With the wind chill making it freezing cold.  Bury actually came flying out and immediately took control of the game with the width of how Bury play with their wingers on both left and right caused problems for the Wigan defence and Bury bombarding the Wigan goal with shot after shot with fine saves off the Wigan keeper keeping the score down to two nil at half time of which Lizzie scored both goals.  Wigan caused Bury problems but Bury's defence of Holly and Ellie swept up and what they didn't sweep the keeping skills of Mel handled sweetly in the Bury goal.  With Nicola Murphy in mid and putting fine balls through to the wings so Lizzie on the left and Hannah on the right and Kim as centre forward could latch on to and with Charlotte niggling away at any Wigan player who got the ball.   Bury's third goal came from our new super signing from the under 11's with her debut goal Jenna Morris unleashing her lethal left foot and celebrating like she had just won the lottery.  Then to top a good spirited game off, Kimberli smashed one into the Wigan goal to make it four nil and all three points to the Bury team that are now finding there right positions and squad building for next years full size pitches and full size squad.

08/03/08        Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V        Bolton Wanderers Ladies FC

Although we had beaten Bolton earlier in the season in a cup game, Bury knew this league game would be a different cup of tea, looking at Bolton's recent form we knew we had a tough game.  After a good team talk Bury were ready to go.  Straight from kick off Bury went to gain control of the game and within two minutes and some good passing Bury found the back of Bolton's net.  This lifted spirits and the belief that good passing will get them more goals.  Bury had slightly changed formation for this match and this was working well.  The game continued with both teams working hard and the keepers having to pull off some good saves.  Well done to Melissa who was really on form today.  With about 5 minutes to go in the first half Bolton started to play more of a physical game, but Bury continued to pressure the Bolton keeper and this paid off with another goal just before the end of the half.

Bury were reminded at half time that they had to keep the good football going if they wanted to win, Bolton weren't going to give up without a fight.  Bolton came out with all guns blazing.  Bury met them like for like and as Bolton tried to step it up so did Bury. Mid way through the second half saw Bury slot their 3rd goal home and Bolton had no come back to this.  Game over.  A great result for Bury and a moral boost given the hard run the team has had over the last few weeks.  Keep it up now girls, keep passing and moving.

23/02/08        Bury Girls & Ladies FC        V        Manchester United Girls FC

The unbeaten Manchester United came to Bury and so our game was going to be tough from the whistle.  Bury being back to a full squad for the first time in three weeks. With United's superb passing and moving and their top quality players this game was always going to be a struggle and so it was United who did the struggling.   Bury were up for this one having had a bad game against City the week before.   Bury came out and got stuck in straight away and proved to be United's equal .  For the first ten minutes both teams were equal and then United slipped through the Bury defence and fired home their first goal.  Five minutes later a misunderstanding between keeper and defender gifted United their second and then the Bury heads went down for the next five minutes. United still struggled to be comfy on the ball and Bury pressured them in to mistakes. Time for the subs to come on and with our new record fee signing from the under elevens, Jenna Morris came on and with fresh legs and a natural left footed striker made a good impact straight away and Bury started to give United serious problems.  Half time  Bury 0   Man Utd  2 .  Half time team talk of come on girls have the belief and show the United players who is the better side.  I think United's half time talk was the same, as United came out and fired their third of the game within minutes but Bury still in the game put some fine moves together and split the defence wide open and Lizzie Evans fired home Bury's first goal and after the restart went straight at United and were really unlucky not to have scored another couple within minutes to bring the game level. With Kim easily skinning the United defender time after time and coming closer and closer with every shot and then out of the blue United hit there fourth and then fifth. Bury hit straight back with a fine goal from Kim and Holly came so close with a twenty yard chip that left the keeper stranded only for the ball to hit the roof of the netting.  A great game to watch and a great performance by both teams and all players in the hardest league at under twelves in the country if not Europe.  Well done you all played fantastic and give it your best.  A special well done to Ellie, who played her hardest even though she was unwell.  Great fighting spirit girls.

16/02/08    Manchester City Ladies FC    V    Bury Girls & Ladies FC

Bury with the bear minimum squad for the second week running went to City with high hopes of a win having already played each other twice this season with a win each and although expecting a toughy were confident of a result.  How wrong could we have been.   Bury were the last to every ball, wouldn't put tackles in and ball watched for the entire game.  The defence had their work cut out, but Holly and Ellie worked their socks off, but you can only do so much and Bury paid the price eventually and conceded 7 goals against a City side of the same ability as Bury, but who clearly had the belief they would win and win easily they did.

If a football team have one bad game during the season, then this was our turn to have the bad game and hopefully a valuable lesson learned and not to be repeated.  Anyway chins up girls and back to it like trojans and the war horses that we are.

9/02/08        Preston North End Girls FC    V Bury Girls FC

Bury travelled up to Preston to face the league leaders on a glorious day with the hope of a giant killing act after our superb performances of the last few weeks.  Bury having the absolute bear minimum squad and having no substitutes whatsoever were still up for the game.  The ref blew the whistle for the start and oh deary me, Bury were the lambs to the slaughter and went 5-0 down within twenty minutes and to be fair Preston were the better team with precise passing and shooting.  Bury finally woke up and fired back at Preston and after some slick movement fired our first goal into the Preston net by Charlotte Vining who hit the ball into the net after the first shot by Nicola Murphy was rebounded straight back out by the Preston keeper.  Bury now had Preston on the back foot and pressed and pressed and it paid dividends with some smart passing up the right wing and a superb cross by Charlotte with a even better finish on the volley by Lizzie Evans.  The best goal you would ever witness in football.  Half time 5-2.  Second half and Preston were still rattled and Bury went straight back on the attack but were thwarted every time by the great Preston defence.  Bury girls heads finally went down and Preston hit us with another three goals and so ended all the hopes we had before the game started.

Bury having not played for over a month due to Christmas and bad weather went up to Burnley expecting a very tough game and in a game that was only declared fit to play on the morning of the match in severe windy conditions of gusts of about seventy miles a hour.  A tree of  sixty foot tall actually fell over during warm up. we was scared. Anyhow game started and to say everyone thought the girls would be rusty having had over a month off were wrong. Bury put together the best pass and move game you could witness.  Six , seven , eight passes skin a player aim and shoot, goal. Kim bagging the first two goals of which all the players had a helping hand due to the passing. Burnley were still a threat but Bury's passing was simply brilliant. Kim got another goal for her hattrick. Hannah White got two and was superb running her socks off and Lizzie Evans bagged a couple and set others up and Nicola Murphy one of our new players scored. The two coolest defenders in the country Holly and Ellie did there usual calm clearing up of anything that came their way and Holly had a stint in net after we knew we had the game won and Charlotte was brilliant as to the way she niggles players and tracks back to cover. Another fine display against a very good Burnley team were our fitness training is starting to pay dividends and every girl is now match ready and match fit and could play all day every day. Well done to all players again.

15/12/07        Bury Girls FC    V Inter Mill Hill Girls FC

Inter Mill Hill came to Bury and having had to miss a match due to no fixture the week before were well raring to go. With the training sessions of fitness and pass and move, it was finally starting to pay off as Bury's possession and passing was second to none and was a delight to watch. Bury were quickly off the mark and were two nil up within five minutes and maybe Inter tried to hit back but it wasn't there day bless 'em. Bury were relentless and started to bombard the Inter goal with shot after shot and goal after goal. The inter keeper did pull off some fine saves but couldn't keep them all out due to the Bury pressure.  A good days football with our biggest ever league win. Fantastic to watch for the Bury fans. Well done to every girl on the pitch.

1/12/07        Manchester United Girls    V    Bury Girls FC

Bury travelled down to the cliff to play the champions elect in a game that was only 50/50 to go ahead due to the weather. Bury won the toss and kicked off and immediately played the ball out to the wing and then a couple of neat passes and a cross and Kim smashed the ball home into the roof of the net. One nil the Shakers. United were shell shocked and couldn't believe they were one nil down after only twenty seconds. Bury were now believing in themselves and were simply the better team. For fifteen minutes they looked awesome with sweet pass and move football and they truly thought a win was on the cards. United on the stroke of fifteen minutes equalised and the dream was over of a shock Bury win. United turned the screw and got their game going and went on to win 7-1 but a scoreline that didn't deserve the Bury players. well done to every girl.

Bury had the pleasure of playing city again and having knocked them out the cup were confident we could once again beat them. To be honest this match should of been called off because a over night frost turned into torrential rain/sleet. Bury just didn't turn up for this game and city dominated from the whistle and soon took the lead and never looked back. They wanted it more and the weather just didn't look like it was bothering them. Half the Bury players looked and were froze and it showed. City went on and beat us 5-1 and i think everybody was glad to hear the final whistle because the conditions were so bad. Hats off to City they beat us fare and square and to the Girls of Bury who battled it out to the whistle.

17/11/07    Bury Girls FC    V Rochdale Girls FC

Having already played Rochdale and losing 4-1 but having goals disallowed for no apparent reason Bury wanted revenge at home. The Bury side played their hearts out and by half time should of been 3-0 up.   Half time Bury 1 Rochdale 0. Second half was same as first half with both teams battling hard but Bury having the upper hand even though their heads were down after the two goals disallowed fiasco. Then out of the blue Rochdale equalised and it lifted them. Bury had more fantastic efforts but couldn't convert, but would it of mattered as the ref probably would of disallowed it. Then Rochdale performed the greatest smash and grab raid and scored the winner with only two minutes left of play. The girls played their hearts out in this match and were gutted that we actually lost.

10/11/07    Inter Mill Hill Girls FC    V    Bury Girls FC

Bury had to travel to Inter Mill Hill up in the sticks of Blackburn for this away match in proper winter conditions of side on rain and gales. The game nearly got delayed because vandals had attacked the pitch overnight but credit to the grounds men who worked frantically in the severe conditions to put the ground back in order after the vandals (moles) that had dug hundreds of little holes all over the pitch. Bury started this game well and within minutes had a couple of shots saved and two thunderous shots blasted over the bar by the leading scorer Lizzie Evans. Inter had to defend like trojans and so they did. Inter did hit Bury a couple of times on the break but the defence of  Ellie and Charlotte dealt with it. After ten or so minutes Bury got their first deserved goal by Lizzie and now Bury went for it big time. Lizzie bagged another and Hannah bagged one with half time approaching.  Half time Inter Mill Hill 0 Bury 3.                Tactics were changed for the second half with Bury going up front with three strikers, two in the middle and one at the back and they bombarded the Inter goal with shot after shot of which the brave Inter keeper managed to keep most of them at bay. After ten minutes of the second half Lizzie and Hannah hit the back of the net again with two superb goals by passing and striking between themselves. Basically now the game was won but the Bury players wanted more and then a ball fell sweetly for Holly who unleashed a superb chip from the half way line to chip the keeper. Kim our other striker tried to get on the score sheet but it wasn't her day, but she tried her hardest. Lizzie went on to hit her fourth of the match when the keeper spilt a shot.  Charlotte and sub Abbie run their legs off and worked tirelessly in the middle and our keeper Mellissa had one of her quieter days but pulled off one stunning save that saw her stretch the full length of goal and tip the ball wide .  Good result in real winter conditions.

27/10/07    Bury Girls FC  V  Burnley Girls FC

Bury entertained second bottom Burnley and must of thought this would be a easier game than what we have played in. in recent weeks. Not on your nelly. Bury started brightly and went on the attack from the start with Kim upfront on the left, Lizzie on the right and Abbie and Hannah holding the middle. could we score. Could we eck. Shot after shot went wide, over the top, at the keeper, pee rollers. Burnley wasn't as easy as they thought it was going to be and also had there chances but the defence of holly and Ellie stood firm. With half time approaching we should of been at the least a couple of goals up, but credit to Burnley, they kept the shakers at bay with some solid defending of there own.

Half time ..   Bury 0  Burnley 0.      Second half starts with tactics and positions changed and disaster hits as Burnley with there dogged determination break through the defence and are one on one with the keeper and with silence around the ground, slots the ball home to the delights of the travelling Burnley supporters who erupt with delight. Bury now were put to the test of having to pull the game back. Positions put back to normal and were very nicely told (that's a lie) to sort there selves out and try to retrieve something from this game. The wake up call had finally come as the shakers went at Burnley like flies around dog muck. With Bury finally starting to pass the ball about and one pass fell sweetly for Hannah who then shot the ball into the back of the net. Game on. Bury now dominating and believing went straight on the attack again and who else but Hannah with a touch then bang into the net again. Even the shakers fans were now on there toes and wanting more. Bury did want more and then who else but Hannah who went straight for goal and without panicking slotted the ball home again for her hatrick . Burnley did have there chances again but it wasn't to be the shock on the cards that they thought may happen.

20/10/07    Manchester United Girls FC V Bury Girls FC    (League Cup Semi-final)

Bury travelled down to the Cliff to take on Man u in the cup semis and knew we were in for the toughest game of the season so far. Was this to be Custers last stand, well sort of. The game started and to be honest it was all Utd and the girls were told to close them down and stand them up which they sort of did do. Bury played the defensive game and blocked shot after shot and then when Utd skinned our defensive line up and unleashed there shots, our keeper Melissa pulled off save after save. On the occasions we did go on the attack the Utd team were simply to strong for us and the best organised outfit you will ever come across. Great credit though to Bury for trying there hardest to keep Utd at bay. Utd broke the deadlock half way through the first half to take a deserved lead and then went on to score again when the Bury captain tried to clear a shot and sliced the ball into her own net. Half time Man u 2  Bury 0.

Anyhow the half time pep talk was done. The Mighty shakers were told to go out there and believe they can turn this game around and beat the mighty Man u. Bury did try there absolute hardest but it wasn't there day and Utd went on to score another two. A great effort by Bury but it wasn't enough against a fantastic Utd team. Full time Utd 4 Bury 0.

06/10/07    Bury Girls FC V Manchester City Girls FC (Cup match)

Having come through the first round against a tough Bolton side we now entertained the blue half of Manchester. Manchester city are a top team and played like a top team. Bury started this game well and after a couple of minutes believed in them selves. Game on. End to end action with both keepers pulling off fine saves. Bury's defence of Holly and Ellie stood firm and put in some fine work. With Kim and Hannah working the wings and Charlotte in the middle and Lizzie up front they took the game to city and with some fine play and were able to get shots off. Anyway a double substitution was made . Within twenty seconds the ball fell sweetly for Hannah white who unleashed a screamer from the right wing at twenty yards. The Bury faithful roared with delight as the ball smashed into the net giving Bury the lead. City came back with some superb play and Bury soaked it up and held there own and then with some fine Bury play through the middle, Kim hit the ball over the defence on which the city keeper went up for and some how managed to drop it, grabbed it again and then the ball somehow managed to end up in the back of the net. The Bury faithful went wild with delight again . Half time Bury 2   Manchester city 0.

The girls got there half time pep talk and told City would come out like Bulls in a china shop and oh they did. Bury soaked it all up and held there own again with some sweet tackling by Abbie Harris and Ella Majid. City piled it on but couldn't convert and Bury counter attacked them every time. Our new signing Taniya made her debut and had a immediate effect on the game. With tired and weary legs the Bury girls worked like Trojans to keep City at bay. With fifteen minutes to go City with some fine play and passing finally scored.  City tried now to go for the equaliser but Bury give it there all and both teams really feeling the fast pace of this game. The final whistle blew and Bury came out as winners. A shock win for Bury. Oh no. A Bury team that never gives in. A well deserved victory.

Blackpool entertained the mighty shakers aka Bury Girls U12s in the seaside resort.  Both teams went at each other from the off, both wanting the win.  Blackpool were soon on the attack and got shots off only for them to be saved by the Bury keeper, Melissa.  At the opposite end some neat skill by Kimberli saw Bury get shots off to.  The game was end to end with the midfield of Charlotte, Hannah and Kimberli having to work extremely hard.  Lizzie up front did her best to put the ball in the back of the net, but excellent defending by the girls in tangerine stopped this happening.  Bury changed a couple of players in the hope it would break up the play, and put Ella up front and Abbie in midfield.  Bury's defence of Holly and Ellie stood strong as usual.  At the half time break Bury went in 1-0 down having conceded a goal through a misunderstanding by the keeper.  The second half saw the same explosive play by both teams, and more end to end action.  Bury failed to equalise even though they hit the post three times and missed two open nets.  Blackpool were luckier in their strikes and managed to scramble another goal just before full time.  Bury fought hard to the final whistle, but it wasn't to be their day.  Even the Blackpool manager commented on how it should have been a draw at least.

Bury playing in the 1st round of the cup didn't know quite what to expect of a Bolton side that hadn't played a single game yet this season. A very physical game from the off with tackles flying in from both sides and Bolton holding there own for quite a while. A good strong team effort from Bury finally breaking down the Bolton defence and coming out three nil winners. A great result in a local derby.
