Skelmersdale Athletic Football Tournament
Sunday 15th June 2008
Our Under 11's played at the Skelmersdale Tournament on Sunday 15th June 2008 (Fathers Day).
No rest for the Management team of Graham, Dave, Steve, and the valued support of Dave Whittiker and Spot the Dog.
Hint more Parents and Friends would be most welcome to support us, as for the Under 12's they have a much better following and this must be of benefit to them girl's, so instead of dropping them of at TGI's or at Philips, why not get involved or just support the Girls, it would be really appreciated.
Any way back to the tournament, having found our way to the venue with the help of Diana Golding, Under 12's Manager, we erected our gazebo next to the Under 12's gazebo which resembled Camp Bastion in Helmend Province, we had plenty of Apples and Bananas and Drinks, kindly donated by Dave Topping yet again, must get a receipt for this Lyn (Club Secretary). Our team sheet was handed in for registration, in which we then received our fixture list.
The first game up was a tie against a team from Liverpool in which we lost 1 nil, a game in which with the help of some lady luck could of gone our way, it was also a debut to our stand in goal keeper Elenor Innaconne from the under 10's who stood up well to the bigger girls, and a very good performance from our back three of Morgan Brown, Emily Topping and Jenny Seymour.
Next up saw us play Euxton a team in which we had come up across in a tournament last year , we were very confident of getting something out of this game, and after 6 minutes took the lead through Olivia Critchley who knocked the ball into the goal from 6 yards out, and which we the management team had tried to encourage the girls to be brave and have the confidence to shoot on site, this paid off for Olivia and 2 Vue Cinema tickets are on their way to you. Half time we were 1 nil up and the girls were jublient, all we needed was another goal to kill the game and 3 points were in the bag. Mia Lightbown and Bianca Flint were causing problems up front along with Caideigh Halliwell and Lucy Whittiker constantly causing problems on the wing.
Lucy Whittaker found her way to goal on a couple of occasions but was unlucky not to find the back of the net in what would of been her 1st goal of the season, sure it will come soon Lucy.
With minutes left we were left to rue our missed chances as Euxton snatched a late goal in which left the girls a little deflated.
Our next match we came up against a very, very, strong Skelmersdale side in which they had won the West Lancs League on 3 occasions and had girls showing interest to Everton Girls. The final result was 3 nil. ENOUGH SAID !
Our final game was up against another team from Merseyside Town Green FC, a close game but the girls' fighting spirit was withering in the 2nd half as young Elenor our stand in keeper was struggling to keep the older players at bay from Town Green FC, she never shirked out of any 50/50 challenges and showed great heart and determination at this level, this will keep her in good stead for next season. As the game wore on the girls were more looking forward to Ice creams and Hotdogs in what was our last game of the day, the Management team of Dave topping, Steve Seymour and Graham Lightbown tried in vain to keep the girls organised and at the end we were relieved for the girls to go and enjoy themselves for the rest of the afternoon in what was a very well organised Tournament. Final match Score 2 nil to Town Green.
