Fair Play Football Tournament

Salford Sports Festival

The U11s again had to play in the U12s age group due to the rules set out by the tournament officials.  Not that this bothered them they had to do it last year.  Having won in 2006 the U11s knew what was expected of them and were looking to win again.  As always the girls put on a great display of football and the team spirit was second to none.  Competition was tight with all teams trying hard to win.

The under 10s had a similar situation with three out of four teams in their league being teams they hadn't met before.  With the emphasis on having a good time and 'fair play' the girls took every opportunity to make a day of it, with different goalies and captains for each of the matches.

Curzon Ashton's early goal gave them the first game but it was great to see the team spring back against Oldham Athletic with great goals and a fine partnership between Louise, Simone and Mio.

Manchester United caused the under 10s the usual problems, but it was gratifying to see us only go down a goal to nil against the mighty Everton Girls.  Nicole, Tessa and Mia gave their usual excellent defensive play, with Megan and Emily working hard pretty much wherever they were asked to play.

All in all, a great team performance in every match.  The under 10s may not have won the trophy on the day, but certainly deserved it.  Well done girls !

Well done to Louise, Jenna and Tessa for some excellent saves, and our new-found goalie for next seasons under 10s Tessa, tipping the ball over the net with a save against Everton that could have made Match of the Day!

U11s in a tough game against Manchester United's U12s

Attending the Salford Mini Soccer Festival was the 2006/07 under 10s team's swan song, and they found out, there is no bigger or better way to finish the year than attending this tournament, even under sweltering conditions.

This tournament is not about how many goals go in the back of the net, although it is nice to score.  Each game is scored out of 20 points with points deducted for fouls, dissent, players conduct, managers behaviour, spectators behaviour and encroaching on the pitch.  The referee decides how many points a team has a the end of each game.  This is then totalled to decide the overall winner.

The only team known to the U11s in the league was Manchester United, so most of the other competitors were an unknown quantity, the girls went out and played to the best of their ability.
"Well Done to Holly, Hannah, Lauren, Melissa, Kimberli, Louise, Charlotte and Chloe"

Also on display was the FA Cup, and the girls had the opportunity to have their photograph taken with it.

Maybe one day some of these girls will be taking part in the Womens FA Cup Competition !
