Bispham Football Tournament
Bury travelled up to Bispham for their annual tournament and after having their presentation the night before, most of the parents and maybe some of the players were a bit hung over and so surely we would have struggled against even the weakest of opposition. With so many teams entering, two leagues of six, and Bury definitely in the harder league we were put against Denton 'A' for our first game and two nil winners we are. A good start for the girls. Next up and we face the mega task of Blackpool Girls the West Lancs League Champions. No problems and its all Bury from start to finish and a one niller clinches Bury's second victory. Then its Mill Hill our rivals from our league and another one niller to Bury. These late nights have obviously done something to the girls as we are on fire and getting better and better in each game. Then we meet Penwortham and hit them for three goals and which puts us in the semis. Things are going so well but we arn't taking things for granted as we know one slip up can cost you dearly. With the semis still to be played we first needed to finish our group stages and play Oldham Athletic girls. Another one niller and another clean sheet. We now play Wirral and as everybody knows these scousers can play so we had to be up to the task ahead. No problem and a 2-0 see us into the final against Birkdale Girls who we had been spying on and they also looked a quality outfit. Birkdale, just like Bury hadn't conceded a solitary goal and had also scored 19 going into the final and so this would surely be a mammoth task of biblical proportions. Bury from the off went into control mode and played sweet stuff and then the inevitable happened and the die hards erupted as Bury's new super signing Hannah Aldi from the one and only Manchester United hit the back of the net. Birkdale had to regroup going into the second half because Bury were now looking rampant and talk about saving the best till last as the sweetest bending screamer into the top right corner was unleashed by Lizzie and Bury finish as two nil winners and bring home their third set of silverware in six days. What a day, seven games, seven wins, no goals conceded loadsa silver and applauded by all other clubs. Surely Norris McQuerta will be putting us in the Guinness Book of Records for this one.
Must dash, he's on the phone..........
